Hello everyone.,

I hope to get a 40gb photo in the next week or so but I just have a simple question about protective skins.

Looking at various websites here for example (http://www.theistore.com/evo2/evo2colors.html) it seems that the eVo2 skin will fit both the photo ipods and 40GB G4 ipods. I thought that the photo was a little thicker than the 40GB G4 ipod.

Can someone confirm that such an eVo2 would fit ok.. is it worth getting a skin ?

I have the 60GB photo and just grabbed the iSkin evo2 at my local apple store. The fit is perfect IMO. And it's certainly way better than the case that comes with the ipod. Hope that helps.

Do the Iskins you speak of have a wheel guard?

These earth Iskins that we talk of do not have a wheel guard.. but after about 2 months of use my wheel is still in mint condition. so unless your going to use sand paper or a death ray on the wheel I would say there is not much to worry about.

The 20 gig evo2 fits perfectly. Didn't feel like it had to stretch at all.

Just got my 20GB iskin for my 30GB Photo and I can concur it fits perfectly. I ordered from the iskin website in order to get the free wheel guard and it's pretty nice. The screen protector is also, as they say, "ultra-clear." Way better than the crappy protector on the DLO jam jacket...which is going back to the store. Now I can see the color screen in all its glory.

I think I got snookered. I was pretty sure I saw a post where someone posted an email from iskins saying that while they don't yet have a iskin for the 30photo, the skin for the older 40 model should fit no problem.
Well my local store sells them, but wouldn't open it to let me try it first. So I bought the 40, and it fits, but it is a little baggy. It won't fall off of course, but it is a little loose. Hopefully, it won't be a problem. I guess I should bought the 20 on the assumption that it stretches.

I looked up the sizes of the 4th gen iPods, and the new and old photos. They came out like this:

4th gen 20GB: 0.57 inches thick
4th gen 40GB: 0.69 inches thick

photo, 40/60GB: 0.75 inches thick

photo, 30GB: 0.63 inches thick

The iSkin site says their "size A" skin fits the 20GB, and the "size B" skin fits the 40GB and the 40/60 photo. Since the photo line wasn't out when these skins were first manufactured, that means that the "size B" skin easily stretches to fit an iPod 0.06 inches larger than the one it was actually designed for. The thickness difference between the 4th gen 20GB and the 30GB photo is also 0.06 inches, so I imagine iskin.com will be promoting the "size A" skins for the 30GB photo anytime now.
