I think that without the following albums the iPod is a waste of money:
Guns N' Roses: Appetite for Destruction
Guns N' Roses: Use Your Illusion I & II
Kiss: All studio albums and any one of the Alive albums
Megadeth: All studio albums
Metallica: First five + S&M
Mot?rhead: Ace of Spades + several others (they all sound alike, so it really doesn't matter which albums you have ;)
Diablo: All albums
Hellacopters: All longplays
W.A.S.P.: Everything
AC/DC: Pretty much everything, at least Back in Black
Probot albums
Foo Fighters: Everything
Neil Young: At least Decade & Unplugged
Alice Cooper: At least Greatest Hits from 1974
Hanoi Rocks: The Box Set
H.I.M.: Everything
Johnny Cash: Unearthed box set
Pearl Jam: Everything
Nirvana: Unplugged in New York
The Cure: Greatest Hits, disc 2 (Acoustic)
Those are the minimum requirements for any iPod. Of course you can put other albums to your iPod too, to give some great contrast to these great albums I listed ;)

Oh, Elbow is freaking amazing. My old radio station played their songs, and I was pretty excited. It's now only a matter of cash. Of course, I'm a freaking radiohead nut, so pretty much every band that has their sound is a band I will like, or some other relation to Radiohead I will like. Like Interpol or Sigur Ros. Both killer bands.

You should really check out Muse then. They are a really cool band.
Also, any radiohead fan would really like Ghost of Science. The guys in this band are such Radiohead fans, they created a Radiohead Cover Band called The Bends and all they played as The Bends were Radiohead Covers(hence the Radiohead Cover Band)!! It was amazing! So if you like Radiohead(or you just really like good music) check out www.ghostofscience.com

Currently, I've listened to a few Muse songs, and don't like them so much. But, I will have to listen to some ghost of science. Me and my brother love radiohead covers. Especially Christopher O'Riley's "True Love Waits", which is a must-have.

many bands "supposedly" sound like Radiohead. NONE OF THESE BANDS WILL EVER BE ANOTHER RADIOHEAD. Travis, Coldplay, Doves, etc... all good bands... but enough with the comparison. They are all miniscule in comparison to the greatest band of our generation.
Go see a Radiohead show, and you'll understand this facination of mine. lol.

It's the truth. Radiohead is its own and no one will ever match them. Nonetheless, I still like that style of music. And you got to go to Chris's house? That's awesome! I love that whole album. Let Down has always been one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Especially the 5/4 over 4/4. Almost played it at Coachella. And I saw Radiohead in Salt Lake last august. Oh, it was awesome. I almost cried/wet myself simultaneously. Radiohead, playing for me. Ooh baby. Trust me, I've been a nut for 7 years, developing since age 9. Beat that.

Beat that.
BEAT THAT??? LOL. Boy you havent seen Radiohead at their best till youve seen then at the historic Hollywood Bowl. You will leave the place a whole new person. Even Thom said he loves playing there cause Tom & Jerry had concerts there. lol. aaaaahhhhhh....
Coachella was good... but it was no Hollywood Bowl. And yes, im dying to see them play "Letdown" too. lol. I doubt they'll do it anytime soon though.
And yes, Chris had a bunch of us over his house for some drinks & music. If you wanna chat with him, head over to ateaseweb.com's board. He posts there as "blackstar".

-Ozzy Osbourne-No more tears----Some of ozzy's best stuff.includes my personal favorite..the title track for this album.
-Judas Priest-Prisoners of Pain---The highlights of priest..some gooood sh*t like Living after midnight
-Lit-Lit---They really deversified their sound after lots of people ( not me though) hated Atomic. Their sound ranges from classic lit( Throwaway) to a sort of beachboys-ish sound ( Forever begins right now)
-New Order-International---All the good stuff from the brit band that practically wrote the book on synth-pop ..like blue monday, true faith and bizarre love triangle ( still good despite it being a dance remix on here).
-Lenny Kravitz-Lenny---Even though i never really agree with his idealisms lenny still makes some good stuff...like Bank robber man and other side on this one.
-No doubt-Tragic kingdom---No doubt...before they got all poppy and wierd...this song has awesome rock stuff on it...like spiderwebs and dont speak...good sh*t.
-Incubus-Morning view---Think incubus from "Make yourself" only more layed back and like twice as refined...kinda relaxing stuff on there...awesome...like goodbye(nice to know you) ,circles and mexico.
Powerman 5000-Tonight the stars revolt! Well it turns out Rob zombie has a little brother...and he can really rock...as well as his brother if not more...Spider and co. really put on the metal works for this awesome cd.
Paul Oakenfold-Bunnka---Awesome techno by one of the worlds most renowned DJ's...a tad too mainstream but its still awesome with guest appearences by Shifty shellshock ( Starry eyed Surprise) and Nelly furtado (Harder they come)...bunkka's awesome.
and lastly but not least....
The crystal method-Legion of boom---An awesome throwback to "Vegas"

Wow.......it would take alot of iPods to hold all the recomendations.
With that said here's a few I haven't seen:
Van Halen - I saw this mentioned once, but no albums mentioned, and if I had to pick one it would be "1984"
Barenaked Ladies - I could go on about all their stuff, but I really like their newest "Everything to Everyone" - there's a song called "Aluminum".........awsome............"You can shine like silver all you want, but you're just Aluminum".............. stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Speaking of smoking, I haven't heard Phish mentioned. If the album "Farmhouse" doesn't show that someone can step up and fill the void of the Greatful Dead, then no one will. And they endorse Ben and Jerry ice cream, mmmmmmmm Phish Food. A plus in my book.
And for you 3 jazz fans out there, nothing beats a glass of wine and some Joe Sample and his piano to mello you out in the evening. I saw him at a resteraunt/piano bar in Toronto, and have been a fan since.
How about Benny Goodman, he helped turn all the big band fans in the 1940's into jazz fans in th 50's. Just go to your library, can almost guarantee his work is there. And look for "Benny Goodman Live and Classical", if he doesn't help you appreciate classical music.....then you're one your own there.
I could go on but I just wanted to mention a site for music exploration:
http://musicplasma.com/
A great tool for discovering bands, enter your favorite, and look for the closest circles to your favorite. I'm sure many of you know about, but there are many others who don't, and I've never heard it mentioned here at the lounge.

Doug- In its day the Album was a huge hit. It was a triple LP, but the 3rd was just a "jam" record and was free. It was filled with songs that George had been writing, but was not able to release with the beatles. The most memorable tracks were "My Sweet Lord" "Apple Scruffs" "What is Life", and the title track. Bob Dylan makes a cameo appearance or two, and helps the feel of the record.
It is still a monster of a record, and the 2001 remaster helped it through its previously hideous Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" production.
Give it a listen (Remembering that the "free jam" record is not really a piece of the main work. I hope you enjoy it!

Their new album demo was leaked a while back and it is simply superb. My iPod loves this album. Just wait for the September release of Antics and buy it and listen. It will, like I've said before, "Blow yer head off!"
Another album suggestion is the new Blue States The Soundings. Mood music with indiepop tilt. If you've heard Blue States before, then this new album will be a bit of a shock. Although the new move, IMHO is flawless. It sounds like New Order's Low-life mixed in with Echo & the Bunnymen...I think. Not much of a music critic. iTunes is the only place I found it in the US.

I love Sarah Slean, too. Well, I'm not sure how partial I am to 'Day One' (it seems so commercial, following the genius that was 'Night Bugs'), but I love the EP 'Universe' and a lot of songs on 'Blue Parade'. 'Night Bugs' would be my favourite, but I don't like the inflected vocal style she chose to use for it...it sounds forced and fake to me. She is able to sing so beautifully naturally ("Narcolepsy Weed" anyone?), I don't understand why she wants to throw that away.
As for albums that I need to have on my iPod:
Tori Amos - Boys for Pele (and 'Under the Pink', and 'Little Earthquakes'...)
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine [Jon Brion Version]
Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
The Ditty Bops - The Ditty Bops
Evanescence - Fallen
Matchbox Twenty - Mad Season
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling toward Ecstasy
Moxy Früvous - Bargainville
