I got it for the:

improved battery life
60gb hard drive
color screen
album art!!!

I'm interested to hear your reasons for dropping 5-6 bills on an mp3 player. All the anti-photo posters seem to think that it's a ripoff. Like the 4g 40gb, it's only $10/GB and -- to me -- that's reasonable.

Well, the iPod Photo is my first iPod. Prior to that, I had a Creative Jukebox ZEN (the original ZEN) for about the past two years.

In all honesty, the iPod Photo was largely an impulse buy, which came the day after I installed iTunes and discovered how cool and flexible it was to manage my music, I sort of asked myself why I had been suffering through a ZEN for so long...

However in terms of going with the Photo, I think that part of my logic is that if I was going to upgrade from the ZEN, I might as well go all the way, and get some additional features (useful or not) that would justify the expenditure.... My logic at the time is that it made more sense to drop the $600+ on the iPod Photo and get some additional functionality (over the ZEN) than to just drop $400 on the standard 4G iPod, which would (in principle anyway) perform the same function.

If I had already had a recent model iPod, I probably wouldn't have gotten the iPod Photo.

I do have a relatively large digital photo collection, and it's very cool to be able to carry the entire collection with me wherever I go... I use to sync a few into my Palm and carry them with me, but now with the iPod Photo, my entire collection is in my pocket...

It's very natural to have all media files in one place. I wrote to Apple a request to enhance iPod by adding storing pictures, and after 3 years Apple could satisfy my request.

I should be getting my first iPod this week sometime, i'm just waiting for it to be delievered.

I'm getting an iPod Photo 40GB. Reasons being, I've always wanted an iPod but never thought i'd actually get one. iTunes psuhed me more towards parting with the cash, then i had a play on my friends brand new 20GB 4G.

This is what sold me. Then soon after Apple announced the Photo, and i thought 'I gotta have one of those' So after bargaining with my parents for little bit of help on the cash side, i finally ordered my Photo 40GB.

Went for the 40GB mainly because my music collection is around 10GB, and i have a good batch of pics to put on it. Really looking forward to using the Calendar/Contacts side of things too, maybe i won't miss so many lectures!

Just bought some White Sony EX-71's too and I'm loving them.

I'll report back when i get my iPod delivered.

I have an extensive photo collection that I would love to have in my pocket to be able to show people whenever they ask.

Also purchased for the hard drive/AV capabilities - makes perfect business sense to be able to plug and play wherever I go (looking at migoforipod for their services...)

40GB file storage is more than enough for my music collection too.

1st post!

Same reasons as perfmode - except the album art bit, 'tho I can see myself getting into that a bit!

Was considering a Zen 60Gb - but that is starting to look a bit elderly IMO.

Unfortunately ipod is still shrink-wrapped in the cupboard - as my wife won't let me open it until December 25th...bwaaahh!
Already purchased Anapod, installed alongside Notmad - just have to activate it...

Will make do with the old faithful Nomad JB3 40Gb 'till then - and my Sony minidisc for mobile.

Xmas can't come fast enough!!

The main reason was that I ran out of space on my 40 gig. Sadly, my iTunes library now overflows the 60 gig as well. I keep a few photos on my iPod and I like the color screen, but what really floats my boat is having all of my music on one device.

My iPod photo is my 4th iPod in 2 years. I buy a new one whenever a new one comes out and sell my old one. There is always somebody who wants to buy my old one.

I have a 40 GB iPod photo currently. I would have preferred a 60, but they could not be had when I bought it.

I am not using it to store photos, I just wanted the color screen, and love the ability to store and displasy Album Art.

This is my 5th Ipod. I intend to pick one up when i got the New York in 2 weeks. I intend to get a 60gb one. I want to get one because my lcd in my 4th gen is cracked and the repair cost is practically the same as i payed for it. I use the 3rd gen as an external hard drive and i had filled out my 20gb anyway, i've also always wanted a color screen. I also want one because i collect ipods. I have one from every generation now, i'm not quite sure about buying the u2 or hp ipod tho...

i bought mine because my 3rd gen 15gb that was purchased the day the 3rd gen came out just didnt have enough space anymore. Plus i didnt really care for the touch sensitive buttons.

More space, photo, album art (want liner notes next) and better battery life than my 3G 15GB.
