It seems like it's down at least once or twice a day.
And other times it's just really slow.

Well, now that the iPod is becoming uber popular i don't think their servers can handle all the people coming in.

Its akin the 3 Stooges effect. So many people are trying to get in through the door that only few can get in, and even then they have to squeeze through everyone else.

I don't believe it is "down", just overloaded at times, with lots more people off from work and posting new threads instead of just hitting the search button and contributing to existing threads.

Imagine hundreds of people doing simultaneous "new post" searches while new threads are created.

I'm not saying not to make new threads, but try to use the search button first!

Yeah it must really suck for you to come to a free site with tons of free resources (unlimited answers to hundreds of questions), in-depth un-biased reviews, and many other killer features...only to have to suffer through slowness or connectivity issues.
Yeah damn the FREE site!

If you think about it, the few times you are annoyed by something like that, think about the fact that you're here---for free. Last I checked ipodlounge hasn't asked anyone for a dime. Bandwidth doesn't run on your good looks alone. ;)

Sorry about the recent server problems.

The site being "down" was due to some very large log files (27GB) being parsed by Apache (web server software). It was chewing up a large amount of the CPU's resources. We've fixed the problem... finally. But yes, it's due to a great amount of traffic being logged by the server.

just an idea but on some sites it has graphs of traffic times over the day which shows when it is the lowest and when it is at its peak,

is it poss to have something like that so that users could try to come on at none peak times if there are any,

I have been participating in these forums for 2 years now, and while we have seen a day or 2 of slow connections when new models are released the connectivity the past week or so has been hideous.

You guys really must address the issues, or many of us will stop participating.

Jeez! Give the guys a break!

Like Moxxi said, it's a free site, and the guys have explained what was going on.

Yes, it's disapointing not be able to get an iPodlounge fix, but it's not as ifs it's been down for days, just a bit slow for a couple of hours on and off.

It is definitely not just because of heavy traffic- I was on here at four in the morning and the site said there was one iPod Lounger online (me) and it was still extremely slow. It seems much better right now, though.

yea u shouldn't complain, ok it maybe annoying that when u go on it is slow etc, but your not paying for the upkeep of it.

of course it will get slower due to new ipod owners joinging and with christmas coming up and wannabe ipodders joing it will get busier,

thats life, i am sure the admins are doing there best to speed it up for us :)

It amazes me how many of us take the admins and server hosts work for granted. There are also many of us that really appreciate the hard work it takes to monitor server and site status and to keep up with the ever increasing thread count (not upholstry).

Here's my personal thanks to all who donate their time to a both useful and entertaining site :)

Thanks for the words of support.
Just in the last week we have had 5264 new posts, 599 new members and of course the downloads of the iPodlounge Buyers Guide.
We fully understand the frustration of waiting for pages to load (try doing Admin functions!) and ask you to stick with us - we have had months of trouble free forums so the few days where it is slow are always remembered over the balmy days of summer!

We can understand everyones frustartion regarding the slow server situation. I've already expressed my anger with the web host about the recent problems. I'm the one stuck paying for the (3) servers, so you can imagine how I feel when I don't see the site load

So far, the servers seem to be doing very well, but we'll be watching it very closely.

We apologize for the inconvenince and appreciate your understanding.

Dennis Lloyd
