I have headphones already, but I've tried my cousin's iPod's earbuds and they sound pretty good. I don't know whether or not I should break open the earbuds. Should I?

No. I don't think so. So far, the cheap crap 9 dollar sony earbuds I have sound better than the iPod stock ones.

It's not that they sound so bad, but if you want to do something with them other than keep them, don't open them. If you doubt that you'll ever get around to selling them or giving them away, or whatever you want to do, you might as well open them anyways, as they are pretty much worthless. You'd be crazy to pay what apple wants for them, before buying some other headphones.

But, if the headphones you have already, somehow sound worse than the iPod earbuds, and you don't mind the whiteness, or actually like it, then you might as well open them. It's not like they're worth a lot of money.

They are $20 earbuds. They sound like $20 earbuds.

They sound like $13 headphones to me. The extra $7 is the cost of being associated with iPod (and white).
