except you lose a lot of quality by transcoding. if you have an ipod, why not use itunes? if you have another player, why not use napster/wal mart music?

Its good info, even though its something that's pretty well-known.

This is essentially the same way you get protected mp4's into unprotected formats from iTunes - burn it to a CD and rip it. Sure, you lose some quality, but it allows you to listen to it on devices that don't support that format.
