After nearly a year of flawless (Windows) performance, I've finally run into a maddening problem. The last 70 or so songs downloaded from itunes will no longer sync to my iPod. They all say AAC Protected, but many others also designated that way continue to sync. Any suggestions? I've stopped downloading from itunes because I can no longer transfer songs to my Ipod. Thanks for any help.

First, click on the song and see if it will play in iTunes. If it needs to be authorized a window will open for you to put your password in.
Second, make sure the iPod is updated to the latest firware upgrade here (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download).
Troubleshooting tip (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93521).

Thank you so much for trying to help me out.
The songs do still play on iTunes, so your first point is taken care of.
As for whether my iPod is updated to the latest firewire upgrade, I need to check that. I'm not sure actually what firewire is. I'm using Windows. Does that apply here?
The bottom line is that the last 80 songs I downloaded and paid for still play on my PC but won't transfer over to my IPod, EVEN THOUGH THEY USED TO!
Perhaps this is a helpful clue: It all started when, against my better judgment, I upgaded/downloaded the new version of iTunes. The previous version was working fine, and I had a bad feeling about changing. Oh well.
Thanks for your help. For now, I've stopped downlaoding since I can't get the songs "out of" my PC.

Go inside the iPod to Settings>About>version and see what number is listed there. Then click on the first link in my post above. It tells you what version is suppose to be on what gen iPod.
Download the latest updater and connect the iPod and update it. Also check this list (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93867).

The other poster meant "firmware" not "firewire". The firmware is the software on the iPod that makes it play songs. If you updated to the lastest version of iTunes you must install the updated firmware. This is definitely the reason your songs aren't syncing to your iPod. Apple makes note of it on their iTunes page.
Download the updater for Windows from the Apple web site and update your firmware and all will be fine!

WoW!!! Thank you, thank you. I'll try it when I go home tonight. Why then would only the most recent downloaded songs (those downloaded since June) not transfer while the older group of songs (pre-June) still does?

Thanks everyone. It worked. Now the only problem is that I get a continuous DO NOT DISCONNECT message. Any clues? Thanks again.

Check your preferences to see if you have disk mode enabled, if you do, unclick it, or otherwise you just have to manually eject the iPod each time it has finished updating.
