I know there are tons of topics about the 5G iPod, but I thought I'd start a new one on the cases.
I think there should be a color choice with the case and backlight. You could customize the colors however you wanted. Different backlight, different click wheel, different back, whatever you wanted. That would be well worth $450 for a 40GB. I doubt they will come out with such a thing, but it would still be awesome.
I'd have to go with a black ipod body (titanium back of course;) ) a dark green click wheel, and a backlight where I can change the colors to fit my mood. O yeah that battery lasts 16 hours, way more than I'll ever need all at once.
I guess I'm just dreaming.........

i think you are just dreaming. manufacturing all those individual colors would be way too expensive on apple's part. even if they ever did something like that, you know they would charge outrageous prices for it.
just live with the ipod donuts, iskins, and mod your backlight here (http://www.ipodmods.com/).

Although it would be very cool I would agree it would be way to expensive to manufacture customized ipods. Mine would be dark green with a black wheel

Interesting concept, but I find it tacky, and there is no way Apple would do something of that nature.. They'd need to put out a variety of colours and see which sell most, then from those pick and choose which to keep for sales reasons, experiment with new colours, etc.. They could have one colour that sells like crazy, which they couldn't keep up with and another one that lags behind (it works with the 5 mini colours, but try 30 different variations of the outer colour, clickwheel colour, backlight colour, etc)... Overall it's just too much stress on Apple, and would cost a lot more for manufacturing and researching...

Yeah I guess that is quite true. It would still be nice to see something like that but knowing Apple they'd charge an arm and your first born child for it. O well. It would be nice to see some all stainless steel casings though. I would like that :-D

Actually it would be very easy. First of all, we're talking about plastic that is one of the easiest products to use with customization. We're not talking about different molds, we're just changing the color they inject into it. They could manufacture 5-7 different colored cases quite easily and the same with the click wheel disc (if even necessary). They would just pop the approprite colored faceplate on the ipod, and voila! 'Custom' ipod. If they made 7 different colored faceplates, and 7 different colored wheels, that's a healthy amount of combinations. It'd only entail the person snapping them together to pick the right color out of the appropriate bin.
Apple has experimented with colors before with the mac and I wouldn't be surprised if they do it again.
