With any case that fits snugly around the iPod like that and requires sliding in and out for removal, there is always a risk of scratching. It probably comes less from the material on the case and more from little dust or dirt particles that may end up rubbing against the iPod as you slide it in and out. I know of at least a few people who use the Apple case and think it's perfectly sufficient.... If you're worried, place a little screen/pda protector on your LCD area so that if there are any tiny, tiny hairline scratches resulting from taking it in and out of the case, they won't be right across where you're viewing the text.

A lot of people will just buy the pda ones and cut them to the appropriate size. That's an easy, cheap solution.

Or, you can invest in something a little bit more expensive, but which could last you considerably longer than a cheapo protector. Some examples might be screen protectors from Boxwave or Brando. Or, you can try the Podshields from TrendyGeek. These last three have protectors that are cut to fit the iPod (and the iPod back, in the case of Podshields) and they won't leave any adhesive residue on your iPod. You probably can't guarantee that from the cheap pda ones.

If you do a search of these forums, you can get reviews of probably all of these to decide which you'd like to use.
