Software updates

i just got a new 20GB 4G iPod and they come Mac formated, i have windows ME, i want it to be formated for Windows and am wondering if it is posible to download the iPod updates and install them on my computer, or do i have to go to a friends house who has XP and download and install them there? It would very helpful it i could just do that and not have to go to a friends house.

That sticky only says it only works with 1st and 2nd Gen ipods using windows 98se, i have a 4th gen ipod and windows ME. so now what do i do?
