Im wondering if you guys still use the photo capabilities anymore and how many times you've made a slide show and have used the TV-out.
Thanx.

I didn't think I woul use the photo capabilities as much as I have since I bought the iPod photo. Then again I have at least a few hundred pictures that tend to just sit on my CPU. Seems like everywhre I go I am showing people my photo slideshows if only for the simple fact that I can show pictures now pictures in a portable fashion and with ease. Haven't used the TV out function yet but sure I will when I get together with family over the holidays.

Ive used both, its allright, tv out looks great, havent even tried s-video yet...... realy I jsut wanted to be able to see album art...but the gen 5 scrolls the album title across the browse screen...not while playing a song, but while browsing so the "disc one of two" thing is solved...

Just got mine, bored with it already, might put some more use on my digital camera so I have some better pics to carry around, but I loaded only 70 pics on it...They look good, am I a professional photographer, no, I have an mp3 player...thats all it is too me, but I would spend the $650 again...I wanted album art and to be able to see full album names...plus the fact I jsut broke 1000 albums on my 60 gigs.... :)

I don't use the Photo capabilites much. I just bought it for the:
- high-res color screen
- new software
- album art
- better battery life
- bigger hard drive
I <3 my Photo
I have looked at slide shows in both yello-video and S-video mode and find the quality very satisfactory. The portability as compared to a laptop is a big advantage. On the other hand, I find it impossible to
1) select some 50 slides out of my 7,000 and show them, and
2) manage the order in which they are shown, which must be logical, not simply alphabetized by file name.
iPod recognizes Adobe Album 2.0 (a popular catalog program) and faithfully transfers both images an Album slide shows, but destroys the order of the latter.
Does anybody know how to manage the order???

well, do u use the photo features often?
because buying it for the colour screen is sorta useless if i wont be using photos. otherwise, the 60gb is a bit tempting because of a lot of storage.

I got a 15 gb, so the the idea of a 40 sounds tempting. Lol

Let me say the potential is there...
I've loaded up my iPod photo with pictures, looked at them and showed a couple of people the capabilities of it but in all honesty I haven't used the photo features that much....
But I also haven't had much reason to show people pictures right now...I'm sure if I got back from vacation or was visiting relatives or something I would be able to create an amazing slideshow and be really effective.
That said i'll also join the crowd that loves the Album art, the newer colour interface and also the 15 hour battery life...that is simply amazing!
The way I look at it is to get the same battery life you'd buy a 4G Ipod and a $40 Belkin battery pack..at that point $60 for Album art and colour screen doesn't seem so bad...at least that was my justification.

I have used the photo capabilities much more often than I ever thought I would. The TV slide show looks great and it will be nice for me when I come home from college to show my family my pictures. It is also nice to have your pictures right there with you to show friends/family/etc right away. I have actually been very surprised by how much I have actually put it to use. (That is until I had to send it back to apple today because the hard drive freaked out :( I am looking forward to getting my new one. )

i don't see how being able to show people pictures on such a tiny screen would compare to showing them pictures on your laptop.
what about the competition, which offers MUCH larger screens and video capability, even built-in compact flash card readers to actually be able to store pics without spending a lot more?
w00t my 100th post. I rarely use the photo capabilities or slowside. I bout mine for the sole purposes of a high res colour screen, album art, longer bat. life. Colour and bat. life are 2 good reasons alone to ugrade IMO.

Being my first iPod, I wouldn't say that the photo capabilities were the main deciding factor so much as a nice-to-have.
Overall, the colour screen and album art capabilities added value to the overall package, as well as the concept that I could carry my entire photo library with me wherever I go... I basically just synced in my entire Windows "My Pictures" folder, and I suddenly have my past five years of digital camera experiences in my pocket.
I've used the TV out capabilities a few times, and have actually exported some PowerPoint presentations to JPG so that I could show them from my iPod Photo.
But ultimately, the iPod Photo to me is basically just a really huge digital photo wallet. People ask why you'd show anybody pictures on the small iPod screen, but then again people show off pictures of their family in wallet-size prints all the time, which are not really much larger.
The fact that I can carry my entire photo collection in my pocket is almost as cool as being able to carry my entire music collection in my pocket.... And that's really the concept of what the iPod is all about.

I've had my 60GB photo since 11-11... and while I've placed about 5 gigs of photos on it, I rarely use the photo/slideshow features.
Even if I did want to do slideshows on a TV while travelling (I could see the use for this, especially during the holidays), I would be loath to carry around the video cable which is actually borderline bulky.
I bought it almost strictly for the larger capacity and color screen.
That said... i used to own a 3G 30GB, and while i miss the touch sensitive controls, the new photo is MUCH better in terms of glitches. My 3G used to skip songs all the time (i'd say, during a long playlist in shuffle mode, every 4th or 5th song would just skip without playing at all).. the photo has been much smoother.
