Heard nothing........ but honestly, being in a 100% Windows environment with a windows 2000 laptop....... and owner of a mini and 3rd gen 15 gig....... there is no reason at all to get a "PC" iPod..... in fact, there is no reason for a PC iPod to even exist.

i disagree. i think that "PC iPods," although not totall necessary(since HP+iPod works with a mac computer anyway,) are necessary. People are stupid; they want an iPod but have simply not done enough research to find out that iPods are now compatible with PCs.
i remember when I first heard of the iPod 2 years ago(more or less) and that they were solely mac compatible(i think this was the first generation.) When a friend of mine a year ago got one that was 3rd generation, and compatible with PC, I was amazed and I also thought it was a great idea.
I guess what I am saying is that if there is a PC iPod, an "Actual PC iPod" apple would receive more revenue from that; the only downside is they might not see an increase of computer sales, since people would feel that there is no need to switch to apple, when its compatible with both(as well as linux)

well i mean you can have a pc formatted ipod then it will work on pc and mac so really their is no reason at all to have a pc onley and the ipod is from mac they would never lock out their os from getting it

I doubt Apple would make a "PC only" iPod, because their loyal Mac fans would lunge at their throat.

yeah, that's never going to happen the ipod is an apple product, therefore they would never make a "PC" ipod that's just dumb. People got all mad when the ipod was an apple exclusive, just be grateful that apple allowed the ipod to be used on PC's don't ask for any more, you're just being greedy

Considering the iPods, when first released were segregated, and then Apple released iPods in uni-format, I don't think they'll be going back to "PC only" iPods. What's the point of that, when the only difference is the filesystem format?

That does make sense for Apple not to make and only PC iPod. It was just something I heard. Is it true that when you have a PC it's a little bit slower to load everything? On the Apple site it talks about iPods are accesible to both computers but it seems like they wouldn't be AS good for PC's.
Tell me what you think,
Amy

Actually the HP Ipods are PC ipods.. I doubt there will be though cause why would apple make an ipod that doesn't work with apple computers and is just for pc's?

No, this is backwards logic. They don't need a PC-only iPod, they simply need to ADVERTISE the fact. If the message is not getting out there, they can fix it with advertising/marketing. Adding a new product only increases the carrying cost and overhead for the company.
What they should do is allow WMA on all iPods - this message would get out fast and grab the headlines. No WMA support isn't going to help grow the market. Apple went from 90%+ marketshare on HD-based MP3 players to significantly less. As all the volume players kick in, they will continue to lose share because we, as a society, value function over form. If style and elegance outwieghed value, Apple would have 90% of the PC market, instead, that honor goes to Windows, which is about volume and value. The HD-based MP3 player market will go the same way, Apple gained their market share because they were the first out and had a great product. The competitors have closed the gap and are offering more value so they'll eat up more of the market and grab the growth - it's inevitable unless Apple gets aggressive and opens up. Closed systems always lose out.

Actually as more competitors have released "iPod Killers" the iPod's market share has gone up (in relation to HD-Based music players).
If you think that the iPod is doing significantly well in the marketplace because it was first out, consider this: Apple was the first company to release a Personal Computer (PC). Also, Creative had HD-based MP3 players out a good amount of time before Apple (anyone remember those CD Player sized MP3 players?).
Apple lost market share in the PC market becuase they were putting out a worse product. Not until Jobs returned to Apple did they begin to make a comeback. Anyone remember the dark days of the 90s?
The iPod is selling well because it's a good package; it has form, functionality, and is still simple, that is the reason why it is selling well.
