I put a usb2/firewire card from dabs.com in my desktop and installed XP on it last week. At first my ipod seemed to be working find, but now it's gone bad and I don't know if it is some other software I've put on in the last week or if the card is just bad.

The card is an "EIO" DM-1002. I didn't install any extra drivers but just found that XP worked out what it was.

My sympoms include completly crashing XP when I connect the ipod via firewire. Sometimes I can mount the ipod but then i get crc errors when trying to copy from the ipod to the pc.

I'm not 100% sure it was stable at first but I think so.

Any thoughts anyone?

I dont see your card listed on that site and the model number doesnt help. A VIA (ti) chipset firewire card seems to be the best bet for all PC users.
Why did you buy a combo USB card in the first place? Doesnt your motherboard have onboard USB?
Try connecting some other Firewire/USB devices to the card and see if you have the same issues, seems more like a driver problem to me than the card.
Can you find out the name of the manufacturer? Mail dabs.com mebbe? Download and install thier latest driver.

Hope this helps.
