Two Problems:

The first CD I used to download songs look like it worked but nothing showed up on the iPod.

Also, when I load subsequent CDs iTunes won't recognize but the XP music library does. What should I do?

Are you using iTunes to rip (download) the CD's onto your PC or are you using some other application to do this?

Thanks for your suggestions. For some reason it did start to work. We have been downloading from CDs. However, everytime we want to use another CD we have to shut down and restart the computer.

do u have a comp that has the media card reader if so this will work for hp and emachines try and see if it helps it worked for me hope it helps????
IF you have seen 1 cd when you first startup iTunes, but not subsequent ones AND you have a built-in media card reader, try this fix, which has worked for HP and eMachine owners:

-Click on the Start menu in the Taskbar, then click on Run

-in the Run box, type in msconfig and click Ok

-this brings up the System Configuration Utility..the last tab to the right will be Startup, click on it

-uncheck the box for "Shwicon2k" to prevent it from loading at startup

-click OK and restart your computer

-when it restarts a box will come up saying that you changed the configuration, just check the 'don't show again box' and continue on..if it asks you to restart again, there's no need to.

If you had the problem with iTunes recognizing only one cd per system start, that should now be fixed...no need to go back and undo the configuration when you are done, just leave it this way...it won't affect the functionality of your computer or media card reader.
