One week ago, I went down to the nearest Apple store and take a look at iPod Photo. To my disappointment, the LCD does not turn out to be that sharp. The screen looks very grainy to me. Pictures not clear enough and the loading of the images preview is very slow. Its also very bulky as compared to other iPod models. What do you think?

After upgrading from my 3g 20 gig to a iPod Photo 60 gig, I love it. Mind you I am not using the thing for photos, just the color screen, extra space, album art. Doesn't seem grainy to me. Maybe they had an abused model out that had been mandhandled by everyone under the sun? I can't say anything bad about this iPod. Lots of battery, lots of space, super duper color. *Shrugs*

Not sharp? Grainy? I'd have to disagree. The image is sharp and clear. I think it would win a head-to-head comparison against almost any similiarly sized lcd.

Guess I am just being very choosy and particular about LCD. I expect it to be very very good in quality. Guess Apple has to further improve the LCD clarity. And its just too bulky to carry around. Not cool enough...

it's a first gen product....can't be perfect....that's why it's best to wait.
eventually, the price will drop and new technology will make the thing much thinner with brighter display

Oh, it's cool. And it's "cool enough..." You want one so bad you can taste it. :) I can understand you picking on the size to veil your deep and passionate desire, but the LCD was just a poor target. [play'n... hehe]

brighter display? Do you guys want to light the room with it? It's as bright as it could reasonably be... Shield your eyes from the strong glow of beauty. :)

IMO the iPodPhoto is just really hard to read without the backlight on. i guess you could compare it to trying to read a laptop display if there was no light behind it to illuminate the subject.

whatever.

if you put a 1G or a 2G next to an ipod photo 60GB, i dont think that it would be much bigger. see, i have a 1G and i am used to the size. it actually is still pretty small if you think about it. it is just larger than any of the newer models, and that is why everyone thinks that it is so big.

that is my opinion at least.

I have to agree with Nitr0. I bought an iPod Photo just for the color screen and ability to view album art. I have no interest in using it for photos.

I think the screen is spectacular.

I'd have to disagree too--but everyone's wants differ, so it's important to try before you buy.

The screen is totally sharp--pixels are pixels--and brighter than I expected. The DPI is 140, higher than any laptop. And while a laptop goes black with no backlight, I found the iPod Photo perfectly usable unlit--in a bright room. Better with the backlight of course, and that won't waste much battery if you have it set to turn itself off quickly.

Thickeness-wise, it seemed thick compared to the Mini I almost bought! And I do like how thin the 20s are now. But compared to a regular 40 iPod, the Photo's not much thicker at all. ANY iPod is a pretty small device.

And I found image loading to be very fast!

I was leaning towards getting one... then when I saw one in person and played with every feature, I was sold. Mine's on the way now.

I do want the photo features, but the color display is too cool even without that :)

The screen is sharp. But text is a bit blurry/fuzzy because of the anti-aliasing which isn't so great.

i find the screen to be easily readable unless you are using sunglasses.

tysoh.........did you check the contrast settings while playing with the ipod photo? And if you see a "grainy" lcd maybe cause it's a display model that gets abused all day long. Another option is that it does in fact suck. I checked out the ipod photo at the apple store in NYC, i thought it looked fine. I wouldn't spend that kind of cash on color and pics as an added feature, but the future ipod models will improve on this functionality and quality so I might get one later in the future.

mine looks a bit grainy if i hold it a couple inches from my face. but who looks at their ipod that close? from normal distance it looks great.

as far as bulk goes.. i don't notice any noticable difference from my 3g 40gb. i guess it's all relative.

Bulky I would have to agree. Though the lcd screen I say is really nice. No complains there.
