View Full Version : Has owning an iPod convinced you to buy other Apple products?

I know this has been done before, but I'd like to see the responses.
The "I might consider it" option is a little misleading - basically it could mean that I would have considered it beforehand, OR it could mean that because of the iPod, I might consider it.
The iPod has done absolutely nothing to increase my desire to buy anything from Apple. I wish they'd spend some of their advertising budget to at least try and keep up feature-wise with other DAPs.
I voted for "No, I already owned Apple products prior to the iPod." because I already had a Power Mac and an iBook at the time I bought my first iPod.

2.5 g5 is on the way. the ipod was the first piece of apple hardware that i ever purchased. althought i have played around with apple before i didn't decide on apple until ipod turned me into an apple fan. not all the products from apple just a select few.

I got my iPod, then six months later I bought an iBook (after being a lifelong PC user/Mac basher). I love it. I am thinking very strongly that my next desktop PC will be a Mac, too, whenever that time comes. Colour me converted.

Never owned an Apple product until the iPod. I'm willing to try one of their computers in the near future.

No. Not after having it f*ck up 2 days later straight out of the box.

nope, because i like to game and the 9600xt or whatever other "top of the line" graphics card they include in the g5 simply does not cut it, not to mention lack of compatibility.

At the moment I use the Dell laptop my employer gives me as a benefit, but if I should buy a computer it would be certainly a G5.

I cannot think of any possible reason that I would ever want an Apple computer (although I love my iPod)

After owning an iPod I made the jump to Apple by purchasing an iBook. Have not looked back.

"Yes, I have bought another Apple product becasue of the iPod."
I was quite impressed with the iPod when I got it over a year ago. I got more interested in Macs so I started skinning my PC desktop to emulate one. I decided that I wanted a laptop during the summer and so I thought an iBook may be a good choice. So I did some research and chose the iBook as the notebook that I wanted. I worked hard during the summer, and made some good cash... I bought a G4 iBook about 6 weeks ago. and I couldn't be happier with it :) The next purchases in terms of my computer will deifintely be Macs..

I think Apple has some of the most innovative and attractive looking products in the market today. OS X is a very simple yet powerful operating system, and with it compatibility is no longer an issue.

Um, compatability will always be an issue, its just better now. Plus, if you're a bit computer literate and use them for more than browsing, PC's are still better. I think the PowerBook is a really sweet book but its way too expensive and is style over substance. Mac's have no obvious advantages other than looking better. All that blue screen of death is nonsense, Macs crash all the time (i used the PowerBook everyday for the last few months).

Many consider OS X as a simpler OS and I would agree, expose is especially handy and I find myself reaching for F9, 10, and 11 often on the PCs at school..
In nearly two months of using my iBook it has crashed once.. I do think the PC crashing argument is a bit blown out of proportion as XP isn't bad. It would crash probably two times a week for me, which is a LOT better than what I experienced with ME.. Macs pretty much are more stable with OS X so I don't see what you are running that could cause that PB to crash "all the time", that seems a bit like a hyperbole to me...

1. Terminal - its command prompt for OS X. WHOOPS THERES ONE ARGUMENT DOWN.
2. Mac have no obvious advantage, how about having an ultra stable core, a plethora of Linux/Unix apps.
3. I have been running my sister's OS X G3 700 mhz imac for months w/o shutting down. Its crashed OUNCE. This is over a course of 4 years.
4. They are so much better for Graphic design/video editing, I can't even begin to explian.
Oh I'm sorry did i just own you? Yes, i think i did.
Now get off this subject before the topic is closed arsehead.

Please tell me you mean "proficient", as I have no idea how the word "sufficient" works in this sentence...;)

If your Powerbook is crashing on a regular basis, then you are doing something wrong. The same is true for someone who claims that XP crashed on a regular basis as well. Try fixing permissions, repairing the HDD, and cleaning out the startup items menu. If worst comes to worst you can do a fresh install of OSX WITHOUT losing everything on your HDD (select clean install or archive and update when installing and have the installer save your home folder and prefs).
Your assertion that PC are "still better" and that "Macs crash all the time" is highly subjective and suspect at best. Please provide more concrete information on your problems and more evidence to support your claim.

as I see it, programs and such that aren't compatable with my mac, aren't worth owning anyway so I see no problem with "compatability" :)

I have to say yes.
I have an airport express that I wouldn't have bought if it wasn't for the iPod, which led me to get iTunes, which led me to the AirPort.
I have a perfectly capable wireless router (NetGear DG834G v2) so I didn't need to buy another wireless router. But the wireless streaming of music from iTunes to any other room I choose was too good to pass up. ??99 well spent.
I'm so impressed with the Airport, I plan to buy a couple more after Christmas.

I don't know.
It's kinda hard because I already have 2 HP OmniBooks.
One for the Doctor and one for the Nurse and our clinic is strictlly a 2 person set up at the moment.
Maybe when we diversify into peadiatrics I might be able to increase our portable computer count........

I've been under the influence of the "reality distortion field" for quite some time, so purchasing an iPod was a no-brainer. ;) Pod on!

bump....
Making iPods PC compatible was a very smart move. If Apple had turned around and said Macs only, I wouldn't posting this message now.

Sadly no. While it would be nice to get one of those new iMacs, there still a little too pricy for me.

I love my iPod. The new Macs have tempted me though. Especially the Mac Mini. I'm a PC guy so I'm used to having my components separate from each other and not all integrated into one unit like Macs are. The Mac Mini would be nice if you just wanted a general Internet PC to surf the web and do word processing, music listening, and other activies. But I'm a PC guy by heart so I doubt I'll ever take the Mac plunge. But Apple's design and innovativeness has been luring me. And if Microsoft doesn't do anything really stupid with Longhorn like all the big security-changes that have been rumored, I will probably stick to PC. One thing is for sure, either way, I can't live without iTunes now :)

Yes... I will be joining the Mac world very shortly.
I plan to "test the waters" with a fully loaded Mac Mini (as soon as they release it with OS X Tiger... supposed to be within the 1st half of this year.
If that goes well, later I'll also do a dual processor G5.
