How much did you all really expect Apple to charge for the iPod Photo's? The 3g 40gb was $500 and no one ever complained about that. Now, a year later, we have an iPod with a color screen, double battery life and new software for the same price. That's an amazing deal. Apple spoiled you with the 4g. You should be happy they only set the price at $400.
We also have a new 60gb version. How much did you expect them to charge for that? Did you expect them to have both the 40gb AND the 60gb at $500? Did you expect them to drop the price of the 40gb Photo down to $400, the 4g 40gb down to $300, the 4g 30gb down to $200 and the mini down to $150? Get real. You are only complaining because you can't afford it. Stop trying to make it seem like the Photo is a "gimmick" or "rip-off". Once again, Apple has released a solid product.
Expensive, yes. Overpriced, no.

IMO:
overpriced: yes
any other way to price the iPod Photo currently: no
i think theyre kinda stuck with the current prices due to the lower-end ipod models.

Was the 3g 40gb iPod overpriced? When they released it in 2003, did people complain?

ITS NOT CALLED THE iPOP!
Honestly! It makes no sense what-so-ever!
I officially declare the "iPoP" -- The lamest abbreviation of iPod Photo ever.
PiPod makes more sense for christs sake. At least you understand it stands for: Photo iPod.
It reminds me of pop music. Which is crap.
Or iPodPh?
I don't know who is responsible for this but the term will be added to the word censor :D

Yes, iPop must have come from some 12 year old PC user.
iPodP is fine or Gen 4 (Ph), or Gen 4P
No, not atall! It's nothing to do with the 4th Gen's.

It isn't...well most of it isn't anyway.
For prices, wait til the 5th gen. comes out. My drift is that when they do, the 20GB colorless one will drop to around $249, and the rest will follow accordingly.
Who knows, even Apple might release an all-colored lineup.

The iPod Photo isn't overpriced. It's just expensive. Apple has no reason to sell a color iPod at the same price as the 4g 40gb which is selling just fine.

I would say that yes the iPod Photo is a bit expensive and overpriced, I'd also say the same thing for the 3G 40GB as well.. If someone has an opinion that says the iPod Photo is overpriced then please Infin1te don't bash him and say its wrong... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. Also some would say its overpriced because there are other players around today, which can do the same thing and play video for around the same amount...
In my opinion pretty much all Portable Audio/Video Players are too expensive and overpriced...

And you asked if it was a decent idea in that thread and even though you got only about two positive responses in that thread, you still insist on using the term :-)
I can't believe how it has caught on with some people. It is an abbreviation that really makes no sense, as how does anyone who doesn't understand apple or iPod have any idea what is being talked about. You can't replace a letter in something to abbreviate it and expect people to "get it". Of course this is just my opinion.
I was going to post last night, but I knew if I waited Enjolax would step in :-)
All that aside, I agree with you Infin1te, the iPod Photo is not necessarily overpriced, just expensive. You get what you pay for and you do get a nice machine in the iPod Photo. Again, just my opinion. Could it be cheaper? Possibly, but Apple is sticking with previous pricing agenda. Two bad the 40gb isn't only fifty dollars more expensive than the 40gb 4G and the 60 would be $100 more. Regardless though, apple will still sell these things and take the profits to the bank.
Cheers all.

Wow, censored. Ouch.
Enjolax:
I don't look at you like a forum vigilante, but I knew you wouldn't resist stepping in and taking the heat! Your bluntness is established, mine may have been taken wrong, especially with the sour mood I was in last night. :)
I think this is the original owner of the now censored phrase: here (http://theapplecollection.com/iMac/iStore/####.html)
