I hate only coming to these forums when I have a huge problem, but once again i'm here with another big problem. I made the stupid mistake of leaving my 5 GB iPod connected to a stereo over at a friends house. Leaving it connected to the stereo wasn't the problem, it was the fact that he managed to SPILL WATER on my precious iPod! He said that he set it next to a fan for a few hours to try and dry it out, but apparently the damage has been done. When I try to connect it to my 266 beige G3 MT, with a firewire card, running OS 9.2.2, it first gives me the file folder and exclamation point, followed by the hard disk scan icon, followed by the sad ipod icon. I tried reseting by holding down the menu and play/pause buttons, then holding the next and previous buttons, but to no avail. I'm almost certain its a lost cause and that I'll have to get the money out of my friend to repair or replace it, since a friend spilling water on it isn't covered under the warranty, but i'll try anything I can before I do that. Please HELP!

I'd take it back and hope they don't realize it's been waterlogged. I haven't seen anyone resurrect an iPod once the exclamation point is on the screen.

Good luck with your exchange!

Seeing that your friend spilled water on it, he is responsible. Unless you forgot the ipod and he didnt know about it. Then you are responsible. It is something you two will have to work out.

They will notice the water damage. Technology companies have the symptoms pretty much nailed down on water damage. It is more of a moral issue, lie to a company(basically steal) even though you are just helping him out or let your friend be responsible for his actions, but it is your choice.

Thanks to caterina and trippy for your replies. I will most likely send the ol' iPod in early next week. I have no intention of ripping off apple, i grew up using macs(since i was 4), so I will definitely make sure my friend chips in at least half of the cost of repairs. I was pretty sure it had to go in, i just had to try and see if there was anything more I could to. Thanks again for the replies.

Yeah, the Sad iPod icon means death. My 20 gig started doing that out of the blue the other day. Thank goodness for TAP. I now have a brand new 30 gig as a replacement. The guys at the local Apple dealership say that the Sad iPod icon represents an actual read head/platter crash and that when you see it the pod is dead for good. Not sure if that's true or not but there you have it.
