I have a Compaq Evo N1015v with an SIIG PC card and when I plug the ipod in, it resets the ipod and then it says 'OK to disconnect'.

I only have one expansion card and it is installed and working correctly (under XP Pro). I can only assume its working correctly because there are no !'s on any of the devices. I dont have any other firewire devices to test on the card. Again, when I plug the iPod in, it resets the iPod (showing the Apple logo for a second or two), then it shows the "OK to Disconnect". I tried the Firewire disk mode that was mentioned in another post and it did the same thing, directly to "OK to Disconnect"

The IPodWatcher.txt log shows:
iPodDeviceW2K::iPodDeviceW2K: ipod service is installed
iPodDeviceW2K::CheckConnectStatus: start
iPodDeviceW2K::CheckConnectStatus: not connected

I also tried uninstalling MusicMatch and its iPod plugin. It did not help either. It never shows up as a drive letter.

Any clues as to what is going on?

Try uninstalling the iPod Software and see if you can get it to stay connected. Very often that will cause problems itself.

I tried uninstalling it and it did not work either. I also tried to Scan for New Hardware and it didn't work either. I also tried the same card on a different Compaq computer with none of the iPod software ever installed on it and it didn't work then either.

Are there any known compatibility issues with FireWire PC Cards?

search the forum posts, there are lots of issues with firewire cards and the iPod.

I was having the same problem, ultimately, I just bought the usb cable and it worked perfectly. So, then I saw a usb2.0 card on sale at compusa for 5$ and added that and I was flying.

Of course, the usb cable cost $20 and only works with gen 3 iPods. (sorry).

I have a feeling its because it may be a hardware problem with the iPod itself. I'll have to sneak into the Apple store and see if they can trouble shoot it there for me.

The SIIG cards are hit and miss. Sometimes they work fine for folks other times they don't.

This could either be a firewire card that doesn't support the iPod or a case of bad iPod(s). I've seen a few of those recently.

Try it with a different card (recommend Adaptec 4300), if that doesn't work, send the beast in or take it to an Apple store and see if they can get it working on a Mac.

i've tried the ipod on several different laptops, some with the same firewire card, others with firewire built-in. i even tried it on a laptop that it had worked perfectly fine with months before.

does no one know how to interpret the log files yet? why are they there if no one knows what they are trying to say? even apple tech support hasn't been helpful in that respect...
