Hey,

I just got a 15 gig iPod, but for the next week, I only have access to a computer with firewire that has windows 98 Se. As I was going to install the software, I realized that minimum requirement is windows ME. Now, does the iPod come formatted out of the box, or do you have to use the windows software for this? Basically, my question is wheteher or not I can get music over using this computer in any other way....thanks...

OK, first off, since this is windows related, I'm moving this to the Window>General thread.

Next, I point you to this thread (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2970) that will explain to you how to get your Win98SE machine set up w/the Updater so you can format the iPod for use on Windows.

Finally, you'll need to get this patch (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;242975) from Micorsoft before installing your firewire card (if that's the route your taking).

hi,
my brother bought new 15Gigs ipod last week. He got trouble with it, he uses laptop and then he get the firewire PC card for the transfer file.
The OS is win 98, and musicmatch jukebox for the transfer program. The Musicmatch had hard time in "recognizing" the ipod and when he was abled to transfered some mp3 files (about 5 Gigs of mp3 files), the ipod is out of battery (but he just fully charge the ipod). I'm wondering does the firewire PC card doesn't recharge the ipod because usually firewire "automatically" recharge the ipod.
Also, I have the 1st gen. ipod (MAC version) and it works great with Xplay. The battery is great, the transfer file with xplay is ok. Don't have any problem with it. But I just recently bought a new ipod for my friend (same generation with my brother's), and I got hard time in transferring files using the musicmatch jukebox. And the weird thing is, I had to return the ipod I bought because the battery is not right, and I got a replacement but it's stil not ok.
Do you guys ever heard that this new generation ipod has some "bugs" in it?
I had already update the software but stil no good result.
Can somebody give me information about this?

thank you
