I'm considering upgrading to an iPod Photo, just need to know a few things first, and I hope the iPod Photo owners around here can help.
We've heard quite a bit about sharing pictures via TVs and the iPod screen, but what about sharing full-res versions via FW and USB? Correct me if I'm wrong, but when photos are synced from iTunes it's possible to simultaneously sync full-res versions along with the downsampled ones. Are there any facilities for identifying the full-res version of any given photo you happen to be viewing on the iPod? What I want to know is how easy it is to identify a photo on the iPod, plug it into a computer and then get the full-res version of that photo out. Since most of my photos are tagged with numbers rather than easily-identifiable names, it would be a chore, if I wanted to copy a photo to a friend's computer, for example, to have to trawl through thousand of pics before finding the one I was just looking at a few minutes ago on the iPod's screen.
Idea for a firmware update: the ability to scroll through album art, the way you scroll through thumbnails of photos, in order to pick what you want to listen to. I'm a user of Clutter, which basically lets you do the same thing. Some might prefer that selection process compared to the text-based one.
Has anyone thought about the possibility of a reasonably compact, media card-reading peripheral that might do the downsampling in place of iTunes? What's the feasibility of something like that? It would allow you to view photos that you've sent from your digicam to the iPod straight away...but perhaps the required processing power would render it bulky and energy-ravenous?
