I wonder if the guys that have been building Linux for the iPod will start a new version to work on the iPod Photo. With the somewhat video capabilities it has (being able to do the slideshows..) I wonder if there would be a way to hack it to make it able to play videos... anyone know what kind of chip it uses to process the pictures/slideshows? It'd be interesting to see where this leads... if anywhere.. :)

Some people must have an awful lot of time on their hands if they can be bothered to try what you are suggesting. :)

Forget that... make it run OS X on Pear PC... then you have QuickTime Player, RealPlayer, WMP, VLC, you name it :D

I once met a guy on the tube that had his iPod Photo playing films with audio and it seemed really good quality. It was running linux.

The guy on the tube had the quality suited to a tee. It was like the quality of an Archos player only smaller. He was using VLC software to play the clips.
