Case and wheel sensitivity

I just purchased a cheapie case from Ebay for my 4G Ipod and there is a significant reduction in the sensitivity of the wheel now.

Maybe that's not a big surprise because it's covered.

I'm considering cutting out the section to allow the wheel to live uncovered.

Anyone else have this problem? How did you get around it?
