Wanted to tell everyone about the issue I had with my new 15 GB iPod.

I got it a few days ago for my birthday. However, the first time I plugged it in it froze after a few songs got transferred (and those songs got transferred REALLY quickly), and the iPod kept making the same rythm where the HD would buzz, click, buzzzz click, and kept going on like that in an infinite loop. I called apple the very next day, and they thought that it might be a bad HD. I am currently awaiting the box to ship it back to them so that they can do testing :( , as it is the first time that they have heard of this problem.

I plugged it in about an hour ago, and what it now does is it reboots into scandisk mode, runs through while doing that painful buzzzz click sound. It would do it for about 15 minutes, then reboot. If it was still connected, it would do it again. It is officially borked.

I don't blame Apple at all. After waiting about 5 minutes for it to boot up, I was thrilled when I was playing with what I could on the iPod (the games, the settings, etc.). Besides, Apple only makes the device, not the hard drive. There is no way that I am ever going to consider another device. I had an Archos 6 GB hard drive, which is a BRICK that uses USB to transfer files. It won't even work with my mac!

Has anyone else had this problem with their iPod?

Sorry to hear that you've been having trouble eith you brand new iPod :( Thats really too bad. Doesn't sound like it would be a common problem...perhaps just bad luck in getting a defective harddrive.

I just ignore these "defects" as an impression on the company (unless I get two in a row...). I just simply have the worst luck with defects. I have a massive LCD (not apple, its for linux box), and it went bad about a month after i got it. My mac had to go in multiple times. First time, key popped off (my fault) and catch for screen latch broke (no way my fault). Second time, sister dropped it and crashed hard drive (funny, she says she hates the mac, but she uses it all the time, and whines when I have been using it for a while, even though we have several computers). Third time, it slid off of a book on my desk, and crashed hard drive (good news: I got upgraded from 15 GB HD to a 20 GB). And of course, several other appliances in my house became defective as well. I can't wait until I get a new car!

hi pardon the dumb question but are you only entitled to get it repaired or replaced when you have the receipt? Cos I got a good offer for a 10 gig 2gen but no receipt even though it was bought only a few weeks ago

appreciate any advice...

no receipt is needed when sending the iPod to apple for warranty services.

so how do I or they more importantly know how long I am entitled to use the warranty without them knowing the exact date of purchase - is there some kind of serial number tracking?
