I'm looking for some new headphone for my iPod that I got only about a month ago. The headphones that came with the iPod are decent but I'm looking for a bit more. I'm debating between Sony's MDR-EX51LP and Apples own in-ear headphones. Both cost about the same so I just want to know what people think the better one is. So if you owed one or the other or even both please let me know what you guys think.

The Apple In-Ear's are known to have problems staying in your ear, so if you get those, grab some EX51/EX71 silicone buds to slip them into. Otherwise, the Apple 'buds are known for decent treble, with a clear midrange. Lack in bass.
The Sony's, on the other-hand -- with the EX51 being technically identical to the EX71's -- have okay-ish treble, a good midrange and really emphasise the bass.
I've got the EX71's, myself; good, entry-level canalphones. At first, like most canalphones, they're uncomfortable. You hear your own breathing and teeth grinding; not pleasant. Give it a few days and you'll 'tune out' these sounds, and get used to the stethoscope effect, as it's called.
Sound is good; they spread the music out nicely, and, with no EQ settings (turn it to 'Off), music is clear. Bass is amplified, so it is a little muddy, but it works well with Rock music, my genre of choice.
