Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Ok, roughly about 1 week ago i had this dream that came from no where, i had not been thinking about buying a Mp3 player at all as i am currently saving up for university.
Anyway in this dream i was chasing someone (dont know why), but he dropped his bag, and i stopped chasing him to see what was in his bag, and there it was, an iPod. I turned it on and listened to some music, i then woke up.
When i woke up i was like Wtf! Where did that dream come from? Then i got thinking maybe, just maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me something, i had the money, i had the need, so maybe an iPod was for me.
That day i went online to check prices and do research on current Mp3 players, and after a few hours i decided on the iPod for its sleek looks and small size, and extended battery and large capacity. I ordered my iPod on the sunday, and hoping to recieve my iPod in approximately 10-12hours (its currently 12:50am, and they said on friday i should get it).
Well thats my story... now u probably all think im weird but meh, i wanted to share it. :D

ok... heres my opinion on people with their first mp3 player being an iPod...
Cool, fine, im happy for you, but then we have a whole bunch of noobs claiming iPods are the best, and no other backround to back up their decison, just iPods are the best... Dealing with my forum back in the day with "Creatives..." i owned one, i can talk, it was just sleazy of them to steal the same technology which apple introuded while Creative were dreaming about it, ive owned a Rio, Dell, Creative, and iPod, and when youve gone through crap, you like the esquisitness of the iPod... getting back on track, its awesome when the first mp3 is an iPod, but with no other backround of information, many arguments will be unbacked...

Couldnt have said it better, but man that was harsh :p I hated the Dell and I've owned two creatives (one was a big ### cd player size hard drive which rocked! ;)) and I I owned one rio and hated it. iPod is doing well.. but im not too sure about the way it organizes my albums etc...

WOW! Your 15 and you've gone through all those players? What, are your parents extremely rich or just stupid? I mean, I have the money to do that, and won't waste it on myself much less my teenage kid....

My first was a PMP 300 32MB(at the time was huge storage space). I squeezed about 17 on it.

Well lets see. My first mp3 player was the very first RCA Lyra which this one was exclusive to RadioShack with a 40 meg CF card. (Not the player being exclusive, but the player memory card combo was exclusive.) That has great battery life, but the sound was just so so. Another thing I didn't care for was that it never really played mp3's, it converted everything to a propietary format.
My second mp3 player was an RCA CD/Mp3 player. Sound wasn't that much better and it was a total pig on the batteries. Took 4 AA's and I was lucky if it lasted 6 hours. Usually about 4 typically. That player just blew.
My third I still use sometimes is a Sony Discman which plays both mp3 (natively) or Atrac plus. Anyone that has these players would probably opt for converting to Atrac to gain space and get more songs on a disc. I found that at 64kbps the quality wasn't much different than a mp3 at 128k. The battery life also is quite amazing on those things too. Sound wise, sounds great but the volume is extremely limited. Even with the higher compression, 700MB just wasn't enough, especially when running shuffle mode.
So as of about a month ago I got my iPod which with the exception of battery power is far better than any of my past mp3 players. This thing sounds much louder, crisper, much better sound range. Battery life isn't bad considering what the iPod has and what it's actually doing. Sure there's hard drive digital audio players that boast better battery life, but I still have to ask myself what they had to sacrafice to get that better battery life. I almost bet sound is the comprimise, so I'll stick to my iPod thankyou. Also to remedy the short battery issue, I have a iPod Battery ii on order which I am hoping will arive tomorrow. If all go's well that battery will put all my previouse mp3 players to shame as far as battery life is concerned.
I can not claim the iPod is the best out there, but I can say it's better than any digital audio player I've had in the past. Nothing I had in the past can hold a candle to it. Absolutly nothing!

I've owned a Creative and my iPod. My parents would laugh at the suggestion of anyone paying for one other than myself.

my first "mp3" player was a sony MD [MZ-NE410]--the basic, all black one. like stuckinthe80s, i loved it like crazy... until all those stupid discs piled up. then i had the same problem as my cd player: "where is such and such disc? oh crap i forgot my case." not to mention i hated not being able to see in the dark, the software was garbaggio, and i couldn't find accessories for it anywhere. i ended up just ripping and listening to all my own cd's b/c trying to download mp3s was such a pain.
i did love that i could run it on 1 AA battery that lasted forever.
but then i got an iPod on eBay--brand new, straight out the box--in January i think. yes. it's been almost a year and i still love it. i don't really worry with the battery situation cuz i let it recharge every night and even on the computer (firewire). the battery time is more than enough for me. and if not, i'm usually somewhere i can plug it up to charge, even in the car. and i finally mastered the art of downloading music. :)
and that's my first mp3 player story.

I got my first mp3 player about 1 year ago, it's some piece of #### from europe called a microboss. anyways thank god i use rechargeables cause i'm lucky if i get three hours on two AAA's. but i only paid 150 for 256 mb a year ago. and its preety small, i just have to remember to take two extra sets of batterys when i leave the house in the morning. And that's my first mp3 player story (i'm really desperate for an ipod though!)
Edit: This is really similar to mine except mine does not have the lcd screen it only has three LED indicators Microbos flamenco II (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48450&item=5726901070&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

My first music playing device :) was a Panasonic Cassette Player. It was great. Excellent sound quality, and sleek looking. The second music playing device I owned was a Sony Discman that could play MP3 cd's. This was great because I could fit like 100 songs on a cd. This was a pretty big deal then. It was also great. Excellent sound quality and sleek looking. Then I got a Panasonic ShockWave MP3 player. My first MP3 player. Small, Great sound, but I wanted an Ipod more, so I returned it after a couple weeks and began saving extra money. A few months later, here I am. I just bought my Ipod Mini Silver an hour or two ago and I haven't been able to test it yet since it's charging. But so far I love the way it looks, feels etc.

You just proved luckycharms's point. I'm sure you have had nothing but an iPod(if you have one) and how do you know its the best? When stacked up against its competition, there is not one factoral catergory which iPod leads in. Style or UI or Navigation do not count, because it is a matter of opinion. Even if they did, I prefer the jogwheel/dpad combo of my Carbon.

I had a creative labs nomad zen nx 20gb for about a year. I liked it a lot, but sold out for an ipod. The nomad was kinda chunky, but a great player nonetheless.

LOL!, some-one remembers when i was ranting about MD's... oh cr** :p . Lol, i think sunshineslocs hit it right on the head ,ALLL the time you were searching for the right MD and there's a million of those little things! Much better to have them all in one device all the time :D My first Mp3 player was ACTUALLY a Samsung...the YP-N30 if i remember correctly. Only 64 megs of storage(i think i fit between 25 and 30 songs on it)..but MAN was that thing tiny....the coolest thing was that it had a necklace you could wear it on....ah those were the days :p

How old is this thread? lol my first MP3 player was a Rio 600 with 32MB of capacity. Then I paid 60 dollars for a 64MB iRiver. After stealing my friends pods I decided to get my own.

My first mp3 player was a RCA Lyra (64mb). about a month after I got it I decided I needed a new mp3 player because that one sucked. I did some research and found the ipod that I ended up buying. Now it is 1 year old and still going strong.

I used to listen to CDs on a Sony D-EJ750 Walkman, but then wanted to go for something more portable, so i got an iRiver IFP-380T. However, this had just 128mb of memory and couldn't hold nearly enough of my music, so after a lot *cough* of research, i decided upon a 20GB iPod. But then, just 2 weeks after i got my 3G, Apple goes and releases the 4G. Man, was i pi$$ed off.
