i was just wondering, do most of you put entire albums on your ipod or just take the songs you like from an album and put them on. i usually put entire albums on and that got me thinking about how much space i'm waisting with songs i don't like.

I don't have songs that I don't like on my iPod.

I pick and choose songs off albums I have. Case in point: the only 5 good songs off Californication are on my iPod

Same things here, I only put on selected tracks (unless its a Pixies or Radiohead album ;) )

Totally. When it comes to bands like Pixies, Jane's Addiction, Stone Roses, Sublime, etc... the full album is on there but there are plenty of situations where I will pick and choose songs. Often I will take my favs of 2-3 albums from a particular band and make a new album for iPod purposes.

My 10gig has only 28meg left before it's full so I am "streamlining" the contents on my HDD. Can't afford to have any filler on there whatsoever.

You also have to be careful about that last track on an album that has a song followed by 15 mins of blank space followed by the not so hidden, hidden song.

Right now mine is still full of albums. I find myself thinking of making just a playlist for everything I want on the iPod. For this case I wish playcounts were enabled for the iPod.

Mine is pretty muchy all albums. The only excptions is if I have an artists album and greatest hits album, I'll delete the songs that are on both.

I have WAY more stuff on my iMac than my iPod.
I have experimented with several schemes from
totally random play list to manual ones.

My latest scheme is:

I'm using the 1-5 star system to help.

5 star - Hit song that I really like
4 star - hit song - not a favorite

3 star - Songs that aren't really hits, but I really, really like. This
also includes live versions of hits.

everything else is unranked at this time.

The 4/5s take up about 7.5 GB. The 3s take about 4.5 GB.
The rest 20+ GB are unranked.

I then created the following smart playlist:
2.25 GB 4/5 stars (half my space) random
1.25 GB 3 stars random
1 GB nonranked random

This weights the iPod heavily toward my favorites, while also making
sure I dont' starve out the other songs forever.

I sync the 3 smart playlist with the iPod. When i'm done with all the songs (on shuffle), I then highlight all the songs in each smart playlist and hit
delete, which causes the list to regenerate randomly.

This means, of course, that I don't generally get to hear full albums on the iPod. i pretty much reserve that to sitting at my iMac. Everynow and then,
I'll load the iPod with some great albums and listen in order, but that is rare.
