My 40gig 4g iskin arrives today and I'm debating on whether to cut a flap on the bottom so I can use it to dock similarly to the speck and lajo cases. (I didn't buy a speck because I don't like the material they use and 40gig 4g lajo cases won't be out anytime in the forseeable future).

Have any of you mutiliated their iSkin in a similar manner? Did the skin tear any further after surgery? Any experience in this would be appreciated.

(Before anyone posts saying you can pull the iPod through the clickwheel hole in the iSkin to dock, not only does that appear to be a pain in the arse, I think it looks terrible so please don't waste your keystrokes in this thread.)

Thanks in advance for your replies.

instead of cutting the iskin, I recommend that you cut your dock.

Or you can always do this...

It's right on iSkins site.

If you cut it, it will rip all the way around unless you are extremely careful. Either mod your dock, or pull the ipod through the wheel hole.

I slit the bottom on my wasabi 3g skin about 1/4 inch on both sides, I've had no problems with it tearing whatsoever and I constantly play with it while at work (flip open, flip closed, flip open, flip closed, you get the idea) and it's still cut to the point where I cut it, no farther.

Your mileage may vary, this isn't a guarantee that it won't tear, but mine hasn't. I'm not in the habit of yanking or pulling on my sensitive electronics, or the things that hold them, but it dosen't seem to be a problem with the modification I've made.

*EDIT*
Well, one thing, maybe I was just lucky, but I haven't looked. I did think that it might tear farther if you cut along with the "seam" in the silicone, might be something to think about. Try cutting just slightly above or below it. Good luck!
