Hey there, I'm kind of new to the forums, but I've been viewing posts for years now, so I figured I'd finally join. Anyway, I've been searching for an alternative to the stock iPod headphones. Now, I'm a sucker for looks over performance (I know how some argue, but I'd rather it look good than sound good :P). Anyway, does anyone know any white, clean looking, iPodesque type of headphones? I don't care about size, or even performance, I just want to find something white/clear that would look real nice with my iPod. I don't wanna spend hundreds here, so that cancels out any Ultimate Ears products. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.

white sony ex71's, though i despise them because i dont like canalphones. they have good sound though. 40 bucks a pop.

you can also go to target and get the white philips ones that are decent for 20 bucks but i hate those too because theyre pseudo-canalphones.

i dont like things that go into your fricking ear canal.

Please don't take offense, but I honestly feel quite sorry for you.

You should learn to get your priorities straight in life. There are more important things than image...

Maybe when you get older... :(

sooner or later, you will oppose white ear/head phones like the rest of us.

This is the most oft mentioned one: White MDR-EX71SL. Somewhat harsh, but to the newb I'd expect it to sound good.

You don't have to limit yourself to white. Take a look at what Audio-Technica have to offer through AudioCubes.com, the import shop (as all of the great looking phones are Japan-only).

Some of Audio-Technica's phones sound great in absolute terms, but many of their phones do concentrate more on image than substance. I own the $80 ATH-EM7 earclips, which look pretty smart. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/rokuyon/em7ipods.jpg They have very little bass and sound somewhat 'enclosed', but to give them credit the sound is pretty clear. However in overall sound the Sennheiser PX100 whips it.

The ATH-EC7 has a very Bang & Olufsen look.

The ATH-EW9 is by all accounts hugely improved from the ATH-EM7 for sound, and features a wood housing. The ATH-EM9r and EM9d are the same phones but in an alloy housing.

The ATH-CM7ti are titanium earphones.

The ATH-ES5 is being released in November http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/products/hp/ath-es5.html

There's also Bang & Olufsen's A8 of course...

Ouch, my heart. MartyMcPod, I really don't appreciate you talking down to me. I know what I'm looking for and I don't feel that it's your place to criticize on my age, or my knowledge regarding this subject. My headphone preference doesn't parallel my life, so I'm not the materialistic ####### that you previously described. Please don't condesend towards me. I asked a simple question and for a simple response. For all you others, thanks so much for the feedback, I think I know what I'm looking for now.

--I'm not a sucker for audio. As long as I can hear it and it looks good, I'm happy. MartyMcPod, go #### yourself.

Really? Coulda fooled me...

I hope you at least understand how I could have been "mistaken".

Go for the etymotic er-6i. (http://headroom.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=26&productID=0020100007)
They're made for the ipod.

Yeah, if you gotta have white, I agree with SlowBye. Those seem pretty nice.

That way you can have STYLE AND QUALITY. Seriously. It's worth it.

The ER-6i has style?!?

MartyMcPod
10-12-2004, 04:55 PM
Well, I personally don't think so, but I was just trying to be helpful, instead of an a*shole, as matt mage seemed to think I was for my previous posts.

Honestly, I think any white headphones are "style-less". They are just jumping on the bandwagon with the latest trend, if that's your reason for wearing them.

The ER-6i's are ugly, but they're white, and that seemed to be important to this guy.

I tend to agree with you. But actually if you don't care a whole lot about the quality of the sound or travelling isolation, the in-ears are a pain in the neck (if not the ear :D ).

There are plenty of more overtly stylish headphones and earclips which are far more tractable than in-ear phones for daily use, especially if you don't need the isolation. He sounds as though he's better off with one of those.

MartyMcPod

I dig the isolation though. I use E2's and they suit me great. I just take the extra few seconds to shove them in my ear, but it's all worth it in the end.

He's definitely better off with some white piece of crap phones, as that's all he seems to care about.

I was just trying to help though, and give him BOTH. Since music is meant to be listened to, and not SEEN, I figured maybe he could appreciate the real reason music exists, by listening to it with high quality.

He seemed to be pretty clear about what he wanted. In which case, he can pick a good looking headphone which sounds decent if he wants. Lecturing will get you nowhere.

MartyMcPod
10-12-2004, 08:08 PM
That's true. I wasn't trying to lecture when I made the initial Ety comment about them having the style he wanted, and sounding good also. I thought maybe that would be the best of both worlds for him.

Maybe not...

In-ears always look a little goofy to me (although of course not as goofy as having a huge phone plonked on your head), and I own a number as you can see.

However, the look of the Shure E5 certainly works to my advantage. People assume they're hearing aids so they shout in my ear, which means I don't have to take the phones off :p

MartyMcPod
10-12-2004, 10:25 PM
Haha... that's funny. I think the E5's look more like hearing aids than the E2's, but I get strange looks also. I have the orange foamies on them, and often people don't understand why they look like that.

no offence dude, but i would just give up if i was you...

if you're the type of person who cares about things matching, then who cares what anyone says, just do what you want to do.

but dont be suprised if people react in the way they have.

They are pricey, but they sound awesome. Ultimate ears can come in all white (including the cord), which matches the iPod nicely. If you want other people out there to know you get it and are an iPod user you can always use the iPod remote with your third-party headphones. Those in the know will know!

Actually he said he doesn't care about performance, either, just something that looks good with the iPod.

My suggestion: stock iPod buds.

MartyMcPod

I want some Ultimate Ears. I would wear those in pink of someone gave them to me. Seriously.

He said he wanted an alternative to the stock iPod headphones. I wonder why though. They are cheap, they sound terrible, and they're white. It seems like they fit exactly what he wants, yet he wants an alternative...

Maybe the in ear Apple buds?

I don't think he's even reading this thread anymore though. I haven't heard a response from him for a while.
