Does anyone know of better earbud type headphones than the stock iPod headphones? I think the iPod headphones are just ok but I want something with better sound quality.
Please let me know if any of u do.
Thanks.

How much can you spend? Do you want earbuds, like the stock phones, or do you want canalphones like the Apple In-Ear?

I would probably go with the Sony MDR-E888. There really aren't many options in earbuds. The E888 are pretty good. They don't sound nearly as thin or distant as the Apple earbuds, and the bass seems to have a lot more body.

As far as I know, the only difference is the shape of the plug... elbow vs. straight.

Shure E2's or Shure E3's

Etymotics ER6i's

Sony MDR EX71 or EX51

Sennheiser MX500's (these are not good in noisy locations)

The senns are not cananlphones so will let the outside noise in, the others have great "isolation" so once you put these babies in all you can hear is your sweet music.

The differnce between the stock apple ear buds are some of these is astounding.

Good Luck

The EX51/EX71 canalphones go for US$46 at audiocubes.com (http://www.audiocubes.com). Otherwise, go for the Shure E2's; about US$95 from amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000C8CG6/ref=ord_cart_shr/103-5830623-4090232?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance); they reportedly have better bass than the EX51's/EX71's -- which are powerful, but a little muddy.

Tekken,

If you want earbuds, you'd probably have to go all the way to the Audio Technica CM7 before you found an upgrade from the E888. Audiocubes sells those, too, if you want a look. Personally, I'm not sure I would spend that much on earbuds.

Like Will said, if you're willing to go to canalphones then you have more options... the Shure E2 or E3 and Ety 6i.

those shure and Ety sound much better than sony mdr-ex71sl besides the bass, which is what sony mdr-ex71sl is famous for.

Clearly it's a case of fit influencing sound as well, at least with non-in-ear buds. Kauffee says that the iBuds are 'thin' and distant: To me they're forward and 'thick'. And I can make them 'thin' and distant according to how I place them in my ear but when I fit mine properly for me, it sounds different. You will have similar experiences with the 888, and it depend on the shape of your ears.

For that reason, I'd recommend the Shure E2c's to you. The E2c has more of an 'invasive' feel than the earbuds because they're supposed to go inside your ear canals, but they have a much more predictable sound. Isolation also allows you to hear more of the music without deafening yourself.
