I went to my local Halfords and purchased a mobile phone holder which attaches to a bendable stalk and a suction pad for the window. The jaws of the phone holder open up just wide enough for my 3G iPod. There is also a gap underneath the holder just wide enough for my in car charger.
I tried the suction pad on the transmission tunnel, but it just fell off.
However the phone holder detached from the stalk, so I stuck it, with double sided foam tape, to a piece of brass purchased from my local B&Q which I have bent so that there is a small 'hook' at the top which fits into a gap in the dash assembly underneath the radio. Sprayed black it looks quite effective.
Sounds weird but it works well and is very stable.
I have no idea of where you might be able to fit something like this in a Clio, but I bet that with a bit of latteral thinking it would be possible.

Hi, have you tried www.proclipusa.com ? I know they have a model for the new clio, as I'm gonna get it:D I know they have distributers all over the place so you shouldn't have a problem finding them.
