Good morning.

First, I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

I jsut got my new 4G 20gig iPod. I've installed the updater and ran it and that has gone fine. I don't want to install iTunes as I'm looking at other options for transferring my music.

Right now the iPod is in it's dock and is flashing Do not disconnect. I'm not showing a iPod icon in my system tray to click on an choose disconnect. All I see is a safely remove hardward icon which lists the iPod as as USB Mass Storage device. I check in updater and it says that the iPod is up to date.

How do I get the iPod icon to show in my system tray so I can more easily disconnect?

Thanks for the help.

Use Eject instead of Stop. That disconnects but doesn't stop charging. There's no way to reconnect without unplugging and replugging. If you right-click the iPod drive icon in Explorer, you'll find Eject on the context menu.
