Just got a new firewire card which installed fine. However, when I plug in the Ipod, the computer restarts everytime. After it restarts, the ipod is listed and everything seems to work fine. But what is this restart issue? Does that sound like a defective firewire card?

It's a generic VIA chip firewire card running on XP SP2. Something else I noticed is that in My Computer, the Ipod is listed as Ipod (drive G); however, when I go to eject the ipod using the arrow in the system tray, the ipod is only listed as "Drive" and it looks like a hard disc icon. Is that right? When I eject on my laptop, it actually says that I'm ejecting an ipod..

Thanks.

Try changing the drive letter and see if that helps.

Right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage'>Storage>Disk Management and change the drive letter for the iPod (while it's connected) to "I".
