last night i was trying to put songs on my new ipod. i put in a cd and clicke.d on import which transferred the song all to the library. then the songs were transferred to the ipod. after that, i deleted all the songs in the library because i didn't want to use up space on the computer for songs (i wasn't u my computer). but doing this, deletes them from the ipod as well. is there any way to prevent this from happening?

i want to make playlists as well but the same thing happened when i tried to delete them. i don't want to save the songs to the computer, just get them in the ipod. so how do i do this? tha nks in advance and sorry for any confusion.....this is all pretty new to me.

Welcome to the lounge. You can set the ipod to "manually manage songs and playlists" by:
-connecting the ipod to the computer and itunes
-right click on the ipod icon
-select "ipod options"
-select manually manage songs
-click 'ok' to close

You can now manage the songs and playlists by drag-n-drop method. You can also create playlists on the ipod itself by highlighting the icon and selecting either:
-file>smart playlists or
-the (+) to make a standard playlist.
