View Full Version : Looking for a good set of non-isolation style earbuds...

hey guys, first post. just got my ipod + ebony iskin and now im looking to hook it up with a nice set of earbuds.
i don't like isolation style headphones because it irritates my ear and it just feels weird overall.
and i only like earbuds. headphones are bulky for me.
can you guys recommend anything that fits these categories? so:
1. earbuds
2. but not isolation style (unconfortable)

How much can you spend?
My standard response is the Sony E888. The sound is good and the price is pretty decent. My only beef is the stupid long/short cord design.
Your other options if you want to go higher are the Audio Technica buds. The CM5 is comparable in price to the E888, and then there are the CM7s that are considerably more expensive. I still haven't seen a detailed review of them, but all the anecdotal evidence suggests that they're pretty good. You can get all the AT phones at www.audiocubes.com
If you have to spend less than $50, then the Sennheiser MX400 would probably be your best bet.
Edit: Looking at what I wrote, I was a bit unclear about the CM5 vs. CM7. The positive reviews I was referring to were for the CM7 (and CM7ti). As far as the CM5, from what I understand it's a pretty analytical phone. Detailed highs but pretty weak in the bass department. It might not be something you like. So basically, I would stick with the E888 unless you can afford the CM7.

They're pretty generic looking. I haven't heard them, but I guess they've got good sound for the price.

e888s look like they would be better.
can anyone else suggest anything? so far got myself set on these.
btw wheres the cheapest place to get e888s

Do the AT ath-cm5 have the long/short cord? They look very stylish, and I want to get one.
