I have searched around quite a bit today on the forums and I have not yet found a good answer to my problem. Here is my dilemma:

I recently got a 4G ipod and installed the ipod software and updated my itunes software as well. I am running Windows XP by the way, with two users, me, and my fiance. My plan was to give my fiance my old 3G ipod and let her use it under her user settings on my computer. However, I cannot get the 3G ipod to mount or get recognized when I plug it in under her user name in my computer - I am sometimes prompted with a message tha says "Itunes/Ipod software currently being used by another user" - which it is NOT, as it is closed out under my user settings. It has tried to update the software on the 3G ipod as well, but usually it just freezes up on the Do Not Disconnect Screen.

Any suggestions on how I might get this to all work? I would like for my fiance to use her ipod and load music with ease, but so far it seems like nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you....

i've had a similar issue w/ my wife and i using different logons (although it's only one iPod). here's how i fix it . . .

- hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to open the Windows Task Manager
- go to the "Processes" tab and check "Show processes from all users" at the bottom
- find "iPodService.exe" and "iTunesHelper.exe" in the process list and click "End Process" for both of them
- open iTunes again and it should work

i'm pretty sure that "iPodService.exe" is the only one that has to be closed, but i close both of them, just in case.

hope this helped.

Did you run the iPod installer software under your fiance's account?
