Just wondering if anyone knows what would happen if i plugged my iPod into the USB port on a PS2. I hesitate to do it because I don't want to mess anything up. I searched both the new and old forums but the search wasn't working on either, so I've decided to make a new thread.
I've also noticed that the controller plug on an XBox is just a USB port with a strange sort of jack on it. I don't have an XBox to try this with, but I wonder what would happen if you opened one up, hooked up USB with the standard port, and plugged into that? Someone should try this, I think.
Any info anyone has on this would be indefinitely helpful.
In aiding my fight against boredom, that is.

In terms of using the iPOD as a hard drive for the PS2 is wont work as you need the network adaptor pluged into the hard drive and then into the main plug in the back of the PS2.
It won't work through USB, nice idea though.
Im not sure whether the plug is USB 1 is for voice comms and the other Memory card I don't think they are compatible with other kind of jacks.
Try at your own risk I say! :D

what i would do? backup your files, do a restore, and plug it into your PS2 and see what happens, if anything goes wrong, just do a restore and load it all back on

Well I've never tried plugging the iPod into a PS2 before, but I have plugged quite a few other USB devices into before. I'm pretty sure nothing will happen. Your iPod will probably just start charging (assuming you have a 4G iPod).
The PS2 is the host not the iPod. All that will happen is that the PS2 will try to recognise the iPod, will be unsuccessful and ignore it. Then as stated if it's a 4G iPod it will start charging.

I might be wrong here (I only own an XBOX), but, my Sister has an PS2 and IIRC it had an i.Link Port. (e.g. FireWire 400), and NOT an USB Port. For what ever difference that makes...
Note I'm referring to the Port on thefar bottom left in that Blue Field. Not the Joypad Ports which may or may not be USB...

it would probably charge it if it was the minifirewire, which you would need the converter.

Do you have a clue as to why the 4 Pin (i.Link) FireWire400 Port is smaller then the more ipod'ish (1 & 2Gen), 6-pin version?
No.... I'll clue you into it then. The Two missing Pins are the +18V ~ +25V 15W and the GND (Ground). These are the Two Pins responable for charging your iPod via FireWire400.
i.Link does not use these Two Pins. Thus it only has 4 and not 6 Pins.
So no it couldn't charge anything via the i.Link Port of a PS2 or any Laptop that would have the same Port on it as well...

The jacks are not standard USB but the connection is, by cutting up a breakout cable I can connect one of my Pads to the PC and it's recognised as a USB device.

You can buy a cable that plugs into the XBOX controller port, and has a USB port on the other side.

The firewire port is next to the two USB ports. I'm not talking about the controller ports either. There are two standard USB ports there.

Funny my Sisters PS2 only had the i.Link Port and no USB that I could ever see...
