View Full Version : Vaja case weighs too much?

I've worked the PR campaign, and have, amazingly, gotten the P.O. signed to get a Vaja case for my new 4G 20 iPod. (Sounds of cheering throng, fireworks, marching band begins to play...)
:-)
Before I order I wanted to check one thing...does the case add a lot of weight to the iPod? A friend of mine was looking at their site and said that it looked like it would be pretty heavy.
Anyone out there w/a Vaja have any comments on how much the Vaja adds to the heft of the iPod. I know it won't be zero addtion, but the case does look so sturdy that I'm getting worrid that it will turn the iPod (already not exactly a featherweight) into a brick. :-)
Also, as long as we're here, I'm going to get the Ultra clip w/the Vaja...I wanted to confirm it does the job and holds the iPod securely.
Thanks!

Well, my Vaja has no clip and weighs about one ounce, so not much at all. I would be willing to bet either belt clip system would double the overall weight. But still, not much to speak about.
And don't worry about the iPod slipping, it almost feels like it snaps in place. I doubt you could get it to come out, other than pulling on it.

i'm in an agreement, i've got a vaja and it fit maybe too snug, you wont have to worry about slippage. The construction is also very durable. The inside layer under the leather is a heavy duty plastic that doesn't bend. I don't have a belt clip either so i can't comment on it. The nice thing about the vaja even though its a little bigger is that it slips in and out of your pocket, I had a harder time getting the exo3 out of my pockect than the vaja.

Thanks very much for the info, that's very helpful. I'm glad to hear the iPod fits snugly...I forgot to ask about that.
It is interesting that neither of you got the belt clip...I thought the belt clip would be a necessity for me. Now that you've had the case for a while do you think you would change your mind and add the belt clip? Did you leave it off so that the case wouldn't have the post sticking out on the back all the time, or because you don't like belt clips in general? My only concern on the belt clip was when I had the iPod sitting on a desk or counter...some concerns about the post scratching things...
Thanks!

The rivit clip system wasn't around when I got mine. That is something to consider, because the rivit looks like it doesn't stick out much. Use the search option hear and title search Vaja. There was a thread with some detailed photos of this system.
I like the clipless Vaja, but when it is in a cargo pant pocket, it bounces around a bit and makes the iPod skip or freeze. Using a belt clip helps prevent this.

According to my postal scale here at work the Vaja case weighs in at .08 lb. Pretty negligible.
It is a tight fit, but I've found the more I've removed and inserted the iPod, that it's loosened up a bit. I like that it's pretty snug in it's case, personally.
I'm also happy with my "no clip, no rivet" policy. I find myself setting the iPod down on my desk, work tables, everywhere - far more than I'd ever need a belt clip. It fits fine enough in my pocket and I haven't had any skipping/freezing problems with it.
The only slight complaint I have about the Vaja 4G case is that the hole for the data port in the bottom is smaller than the 3G iVod case. I have no idea why, but it's not an improvement. It's not that difficult to plug in the cable - but it would be much easier if they'd left the hole the size it was on the 3G.

Just got mine 2 days ago with the belt clip...I like it, but i make sure to take off the belt clip while setting it down on a desk or something...or else it tips over. I actually like how the mount on the back tilts the ipod up so its readable without having to look directly over it.

OK - I'm good to go. :-)
Thinking about colors now, and have to decide between something gaudy/colorful and something conservative.
Decisions, decisions.

I can make a recommendation on the color.
For my 4G, I ordered the orange/grey combination because it kinda matches my orange/grey Honda Element.
My fiance, who's had a nappy, dirty Action Jacket on her 3G for about a year was blown away by the quality of my Vaja case. She wanted a clear case, or something that at least looked like the iPod itself - and I don't think she wanted to spend the money, so she decided to stick with the Action Jacket.
I searched eBay for awhile and found a guy selling a pristine used Vaja White/grey 3G case and I picked it up for around $30. My fiance adores and went completely nuts for it.
Looking at them both, though I love my orange case - I have to admit the white/grey combo is really fantastic. Very seamless and it looks just perfectly iPod.
So, if you're leaning towards conservative color - I'd highly recommend the white/grey.
