I have my iPod for about 4 weeks now and I've had this problem since the start- the battery is being continuosly drained, even when the iPod is switched off and the 'Hold' switch is on.
I charge the iPod overnight so it's fully charged, listen to it for one hour on my way to work. Then I switch it off by holding the play/pause button and put it on 'Hold'. The next day I try to turn it on, but it doesn't respond to anything (even resetting doesn't work). I plug it in and it shows the battery is completely exhausted.

This doesn't happen if I pause the iPod instead of switching it off; after a while being paused it switches itself off and will respond as normal when I use it the following day.

Is this a known defect? Should I bring it back to CompUSA for an exchange?

hey i have a 20gb 4g and it seems to have the same problem
at first i thought it was my 320kbps songs but i changed all to 192 and im still having the same problem.. not as severe though

more people should check up on this... maybe these new batteries last 12 hours even w/ the screen off

I also have this exact same problem. Has anyone found a solutions for this yet? I get about one hour out of my ipod, turn it off, come back later and it is drained. Thanks

Yep. Count me in too. I have had my ipod +hp (horse poop) for a whopping 3 weeks and I am having battery problems. My runtime is only 4 hours. It's sad, you can actually watch the battery icon drain as is plays. It's a far cry from the 12 hours promised. Hell, I settle for 8, but since the ipod is only 21 days post purchase, I am very dissapointed. Looks like it going back to hp.

After spending time on the phone with HP support for my week old iPod, it became apparent they had no clue how to fix this. I returned the iPod last night for a replacement and problem solved. I listed to it all day long yesterday, and never ran out of battery. I would do the same if I were you.

Yes, it's probably going back. I just had to prove to myself that the low run time is consistant. Did they give you a new pod or jsut replace the battery in the old one? Did you have to reload all your songs?

They exchanged for a new one. There is no way for a circuity city or other retailer to replace the battery on an ipod.
