Hi --

I was going to post this message in the "4G Showcase has arrived" forum, but since this is a maintenance discussion rather than a discussion on the general impressions, I figured I would start a new thread (and help not to "bury the message" in a previous thread).

Anyhoo...

I've had the 4G Showcase Contour case for less than a week and am seeing HORRIBLE stains on it from keeping the iPod in my bag or in my pocket. The stains are not just dirt stains, but stains from the case resting against a newspaper for a few minutes or collecting small dirt particles from my pocket. I tried the soap and water thing, and cannot seem to clean it off.

Frustrated (and not wanting to return this case as it's terrific), I contacted Contour and they suggested using baby wipes to clean it. The rep said it works well and it keeps the rubber fresh and new. Anyone else try this? Anyone else try something else to get it clean? I don't want to mar the rubber, but these colored and black stains are so noticeable.

I'm going to give this a go this week to see, and if need be, will contact Contour to see if I can get a replacement or if I could get a black one.

I've used lighter fluid, and that worked for the most part, but as you may know, lighter fluid can soften rubber. I have thought about king if I could exchange mine for a black one as well.

At the Mercedes-Benz dealership that I work for, we utilize a German made product called "Rubber Care" made by a company called Wurth. I have utilized it with great success on the window mouldings on my car that had become dry and dull-looking due to old age. Instead of purchasing new parts, I decided to try this to see if I could bring them back to life. It works great on the car, which is exposed to the most damaging natural element, UV light.

I plan on giving it a shot on my black showcase tomorrow. I'll post results and let you know how it turns out.

Great.. I really appreciate the feedback. I've also found that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works well although it disintegrates so quickly.

I've only used the eraser on white so i don't know how it fares on black.

Keep me posted and I'll do the same.

Rubbing alcohol (3G and 4G contours use the samr ubber) and it seems to get it off 95% :) I dont know if its softening the rubber though... however I clean mine almost every day, Some days with just a wet rag works fine too.
