View Full Version : The Best earplugs for Ipod
I wish to definitively settle which are the BEST earplugs for the IPod - WITHOUT resorting to an external amp.
Is it the Shure 3 or the Etymotic ER6i, or another earplug?
All comments appreciated, thanks

You will NEVER definitely settle, and there is no reason to try.
I prefer the Shure sound, while many others prefer the Ety sound. They are quite different, and it just depends on your opinion of what music should sound like.
I like the warm richer tone of Shure E2's. But, many audiophiles like the thinner, crisper, more distinct sound of Etys.
Seriously, if you want to hear about good earphones, that's fine, but you will NEVER get a definite answer of which is THE BEST.
Sorry. It just won't happen. And this is a fact.

If you're looking for the best, then go with the Sensaphonics Prophonic 2X-S or the Ultimate Ears UE10Pro. While nothing is truly definitive, these are about as close as it gets. Just be sure to warm up your credit card before you run it through... it might die from sudden shock otherwise.
I don't think the E3 or the 6i are nearly definitive. I have the E3 and while I like it, it definitely is a major compromise from even a moderately priced headphone like my Grado SR-80s. I had the ER-4P, too, and that is even more of a compromise, in my opinion. The best universal fit canalphones would be the Shure E5 or the Ety ER-4P, but I wouldn't consider either of them the best considering the custom fit options that are available.

I prefer that Audio-Technica ATH-CM7ti's. These phones don't delievery the orginal sound, but they delievery the sound in a very special way which help you enjoy the music.

I disagree, my Shure E5's work great right out of the iPod with no additional amp.
