View Full Version : Will they fit?
Hey everyone.
I'm thinking of buying some MDR-EX71SL from my local Index store but once I open them they are un-returnable.
What if they don't fit my ears, or are really uncomfortable? I know it's only ??40 odd, but it's still alot for something that might not be of any use..
How likely is it that they will not fit? I know alot of normal earphones don't fit my ears, but I've never tried any in-earphones.

The likelihood of them not fitting is very low. I doubt you'd find them really uncomfortable, either. I suppose it's possible, but that's the risk you take. You can always eBay them.
Thank's, now I have to decide on a white pair, or black.. Oh the decisions!
I've heard you can hear your footsteps alot clearer whilst wearing them, what would they be like for skateboarding with? Would they actually hurt your ears because of all the heavy landings etc? I hope not.
Thanks again.

these earphones has something called a stethsescope (sp?) effect where sometimes the wires or footsteps may cause your earphones to make a little "pop" sound
so skateboarding might give you some popping sounds...
white or black you say? white DOES look better with the white ipod... but black is alot cheaper... and black does match with the black iskin which is good for people who have the black iskins
See, that puts me off even more. I think I'll get them anyway, I could always use another pair for skating.
Well, about the Black and Whites. The Blacks are actually more expensive than the Whites for me, but only by less than a pound.

stoop's a little off on that. What people are referring to with the footsteps is the "occlusion" effect. It's basically the sound of internal vibration of your body due to your ears being sealed off. The phones themselves don't actually make any noises. You can hear exactly what it will sound like. Stick your fingers in your ears so they are plugged and walk around on a hard surface. Those "thuds" are what you're going to hear.
As far as the "stethoscope" effect, it's actually called microphonics. Basically, it's very similar. If the cord comes in contact with stuff or gets rubbed, you're going to hear that vibration transmitted in similar fashion to the occlusion effect. But again, the speaker of the earphone is not producing it. It's the same sound as tapping on the end of a stethoscope, really.
I wouldn't worry about it. Your brain tunes that stuff out pretty easily.
Yeah I thought I'd get used to it. I knew it wasn't the actualy speaker making the noise, It's just I don't want to hurt my ears because of it when I'm skateboarding. Will that happen?
Like being slapped round the ears, that hurts inside.. Know what I mean?

Oh god no. It's nowhere near that loud. It's background noise. The stethoscope analogy is a little extreme because steths are designed to amplify. It's nowhere near that level.
Oh right, thanks alot for clearing that up!
I'll be ordering me a pair of these in a second then, unless I want black which I can just buy tomorrow.. Decisions, decisions, decisions!
Thanks again.

ahh... i stand corrected :)
I was just about to order the White's from iPodx.co.uk, but they only accept paypal as a payment and I don't have paypal.
Does anyone know if there is any other UK online stores that would sell these in White?
I hope there is, I was just looking forward to them.
I just bought a black pair from Curry's (UK Store) and I have to say, they're excellent!
