i am looking for some good cans that are under $100 but not extremely huge. i like 80's thrash metal and classic rock and some rap, any suggestions?

i have two pairs...

1. Sony MDR-V600 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00001W0DI/103-7147232-2311836?v=glance)...these are great for the price!

2. AKG K240DF (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002H0DI0/qid=1096777361/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_etk-electronics/103-7147232-2311836?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282)...these are *amazing*, but better suited for studio work than ipod action.

both are studio phones though, so you might want to find something more fashionable?

I would recommend the V6 over the V600. It's an older model, but it's considered a lot better. It's fairly big, but no bigger than the V600. Here:

Sennheiser HD280 would be another good choice and works well with the iPod:

Hard to believe no one has recommended Grados yet. The SR60 and SR80 are widely considered the best headphones under $100.

For reviews try www.headphone.com and www.head-fi.org

Not hard to believe, as they're utterly impractical for portable use.
(have owned both SR60 and SR80, as well as SR325 and RS-1)

The MDR-V6 is a good suggestion, and the PX200 is a good one as well. The Sony MDR-EX71 is not particularly great sounding, but they are very definitely usable earphones for all sorts of things.

I would recommend that you did not get mdr-v600s. No offense, but the mdr-v6's they supposedly replaced are a lot better, and they're less expensive, since they've been discontinued. Actually, the v6 has exactly the same drivers as the mdr-7506, which is one of the professional studio standards in the US. the only difference is that the 7506 has gold-plated connections, while the v6 doesn't.

mdr-v6 >> mdr-v600 !

i have a pair, i definitely recommend them. bought them from a guy on http://www.head-fi.org (Head-Fi) for $70, and they're great.

www.head-fi.org is a great resourse for headphones but beware you may get sucked in...

In anycase the V6s are a much better heaphone compared to the V600s. Just recently got them, V6s, and couldn't be happier. Well I would like to test them with an amp, or maybe the velour pad replacement...

Outro, yeah, the guy on head-fi that sold me my v6s had replaced the pads with the beyerdynamic ones... they're so comfortable! And they're great headphones for that price. He started to get me sucked into the whole headphonephile thing, hehe. It's pretty crazy.. some people have multiple $2-300+ pairs for different genres of music.

I don't think that I'll ever even get an amp for them, though. Well.. maybe.. now that I think about it..

That site will suck you in.. beware!
