Does anyone here own a CDA-7998 and plan on installing a KCA-420i? I'd like to know if this combination works. Alpine officially supports the 2004 series of head units with the iPod module, and the 7998 is either a 2003 or 2002.

The 420 uses the ainet port on the head. If the head has an ainet port your good to go. Otherwise, it's incompatible.

That was Alpine's original statement, but according to the Playlist magazine forums, Alpine has said that the AI-Net software of the 2004 Alpines is required for the adapter. So a first hand account of it working or not would be great.
BTW... I have the adapter installed in my truck with a 9831 head unit (2004) and it works great. Not perfect, but it's better than any option I've seen before.

I installed the KCA-420i last night. It works great with my Alpine CDA-9815 which is the 2003 version of the 9835. As popular as this unit is going to be I sure someone with your deck will chime in before long, but I think as long as you have any Ai-net deck, the interface will work.
