See that 2 X 200Gb (RAID) in my sig? Thats where. It's a redundant array with 2 200Gb drives (actually 189.7Gb). The RAID type I used allows the drives to appear as one but they are actually mirrors of each other. If one dies, I have a built in back-up. When I replace or add a drive, the array will re-build itself and self replicate to the new drive. Click on the word RAID in my sig for more info on RAID arrays and what they are.....

maybe on one of these (cause I know his collection is HUGE):

;)
But really, where do you put all that music baggs, and what format is it in?

You'd think for around $1000 they would include the drives in that package.....
EDIT: Oh wait, it DOES!
My current 189.7 Gb has less than 2Gb left and I need SOMETHING else to expand into. $1000 is pretty hefty, but it might be worth it.....

I've seen 500GB for alot less, probably 2 for less then this one. So you can RAID again.

Yeah, but 1.6 TB, imagine how many MP3s I can fit on THAT puppy..!

Well, assuming 5mb per mp3, that's about 320,000 mp3s...WOW! That's like 1/3rd of everything in the iTMS....
EDIT: After checking your sig, baggs, looks like your a little more than 10% there...keep up the good work!

baggss,
If you can swing it great. But $2199 for 1.6 TB ...... wow
This is more my liking and budget (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10117)
And for under $500 each (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=1714946)
That 2 grand could RAID 4 of these instead (2TB)

I don't think you can raid external Firewire hard drives.
What he could do is Raid 4 internal 250GBs at Raid 1+0 to get 500GBs with backup if any one of them fails, but he would run out of physical space quickly in an Apple case.

Can you throw another mirror in there (ie: two more 250GB drives)? Not sure if your controller/case can handle that.
With a library that size, you should look at Network Attached Storage, or get a dediated box with tons of disks and a RAID Level 10 setup to give you the performance and fault tolerance you have now.

$1000 for a TB is $1 a gig, thats reasonable. Or you could get four 250 gig for a little less, but not much less.
I like it:), but what if it crapped out...

Actually, I think you can RAID the externals. Lets see, 2 400Gbs in a mirrored RAID and then Stripe them with my 200 Internals for close on 600GB?
I have 2 internal 40Gb drives that I can swap out with 2 more BIG drives. I may have to buy a new controller card though, one IDE port on mine doesn't seem to work. I could do it all with internal drives. That might be easier. What are biggest internal ATA/IDE drives you guys have seen. I've seen 350Gb but nothing bigger....
Thanks for the links all.....

In light of my recent 120GB HDD's demise... I've been looking at some Network Attached Storage solutions for home storage of MP3's, backups, source software etc.... NAS solutions ain't cheap, but Linksys has a neat device that let's you put two USB drives on your Network, to give you a NAS-like setup using external USB drives.
Linksys NSLU2:
http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=35&scid=43&prid=640
Not too bad at all, and your file system is easily available to your entire network as opposed to when you use an external USB drive attached to a PC (yes - you can "share" it out, but the PC still has to be on etc...).
Anyone else out there have any cheap NAS solutions?
Cheers.
