welcome to the lounge :)

it's really going to depend a lot on your budget and how 'fussy' your ears are...!?

i've just gone through the whole replacing my old iSub on a pBook, for something more substantial, but not too expensive, and realising that these speakers are only playing aac tunes and maybe some dvds, sound quality had to be decent, but they're computer speakers...!?

anyway the three candidates were the creatures II, soundsticks II and the altec lansing fx6021, and until i found the fx6021 for a really good price, it was going to be the soundsticks, since i thought they produced a 'cleaner' sound than the creatures. however the creatues are pretty well priced at around AUS$180. but for another $70 you can get the altec lansings, which decimate the other two...!? :D

here's a pic of the 6021s if you're interested...

you can get them at that price from umart, or if they're out of stock there's a place in sydney selling them for $289 (all aus dollars..!) if you want to listen to them try harvey norman, but they sell them for $499

hope that helped a bit, though definitely go listen to whatever you're considering - it's the only real test!! good luck :)

i have the creatures and i'm more than happy with them...great sound, treble, bass, stereo separation, design matches the ipod and other mac goodies. remember -- these are *computer* speakers and there's only so much sound quality one can squeeze out of a stereo-mini connection.

I have Creatures in my kitchen, and they're astonishingly good, though mine are Creature 1s with blue, not green, down-lighters.

from memory of how the speakers connect to the computer (via a audio jack plug) then it should be fine plugging that into the iPod (as i have done with the altecs). the soundsticks are good speakers, but if you can find the altecs for less, then i would consider them instead of the soundsticks. btw this only applies to the soundstick II - the original version i think were connected via usb.

I have actually went to Harvey Norman during the weekend..the altec lancing speakers that you recommended doesn't sound that good..besides it looks pretty fragile as well... any other altec l speakers that you can recommend to me besides the FX6021?

yeah i think you need to be careful-ish with the satellites, but so far i haven't had a problem with them...
