To all that have owned, compared, etc... my friend just bought a pair of Shure E2c's from the Apple store and I currently own a pair of Sony Ex71's.

After much extensive comparing my friend is baffled at how the Sony EX71 can produce more powerful bass than his Shures. When I listened to the same songs with his E2c's I noticed the sound was more "fuller" yet less "bassier". I really do like the way the Shures fit into your ear and the way the wires wrap behind the ear to the back (good design) but was kinda let down with the bass/treble that the Sony's seem to shine more on.

My friend (and myself) are curious if we are doing something wrong. Everyone raves about the Shures but it seems like the Shures do not produce powerful bass and clear highs as much as the Sony.

Comments??

just a follow up - after listening to some of my fave songs with the Shure I have concluded that the Sony's cut out all mid range freq. thus making the bass more "powerful" in a way and highs more crisp. BUT after using the Shures I find myself hearing things I never heard before using the Sonys! Very interesting. The Shures have a lot more mid-range freq. thus making for that "full" sound.

My friend likes my Sony's more, hey maybe we should trade!!! Also changing out the earbuds to a smaller size helped a lot more with the sound. I was going to try those ugly orange buds but ...

I guess it would hellp if the iPod had a graphic EQ as well...
