What Color is Your Ipod's Backlight?

Make sure you are determining the color under NO light (ie in the dark) as different lighting can affect the color of it. Again, look at your ipod in the COMPLETE dark before you judge which color it is. Please try to vote White or Bue, if it's not completely one color, pick which it's closest to. If you can't decide which it's closest to, please vote "Mix".

look at your iPod ( 2nd/1st ) gen on an angle, it'll appear blue. look striaght up its white.

what? your backlight can be white? I just orderd a 3G and it will be here tommorow. I hope is has a blue light! Blue is my favorite color. Just my luck it will end up white. why are there 2 colors??? is there a greater chance of having a white one or a blue one?

seems like all the ipods that I see in the stores have white back lights.... I was wondering about that since the pictures on the boxes are always blue.... I'm just waiting for my 15GB to arrive from my ebay seller... I'm crossing my fingers and hoping mine will be blue.... because the white doesn't look nearly as bright...

Well I got my ipod which I bought on ebay. I was soooo wanting a blue backlight but instaed I have a white. The white doesn't look totally bad and it definetly is bright enough. I wish i had blue though, it looks so much better!

The picture that Torchedlh posted was the first that I've seen with a blue backlight. Every iPod that I have seen in person has had the white backlighting, even the one that I have :(

weird thing is, although i consider my ipod's backlight to be blue, i've never seen it THAT blue like the ipod in the picture. mine is a darker more purple color. even still i think it provides better contrast than the white backlit ones.

Im not really sure what mine is... I just got the 3rd gen. 10GB iPod...after seeing those 2 pics on the first post, i thought mine was blue... but then i looked at mine and it appeares white...but its blindingly bright... not nearly as dull as the white in the pic... so im gonna have to say mines a mix... also... if someone has a pic of the supposedly purple light... id like to see it... every light ive ever seen in person is super bright white like mine.

Try this...

Turn on your backlight while under fluorescent lights at work, mine looks white. Take it in a dark room, turn it on and it has a blue haze to it. I think it has something to do with the 'white balance' effect some others have talked about on the board.

There are 2 different color backlights. My friend just bought his at CompUSA and it is extremely blue. It looks like it has an indigo backlight that those watches have. Mine is white. Mine looks smoother and there are no shaddows cast by the lights on the side. In addition, mine looks blue under certain lighting conditions

Mine is white. I was hoping it was blue, like the one that is displayed on their box!!! Oh well...it's still #### nice! Better than the usuall deep blue or green that some other mp3 players have.

P.S. Can the people responding with their LCD color please include info on their iPod? Like how big of a hard drive?

The reason i ask is because i heard that the 30Gb iPod is the one that comes with a blue lit LCD.

That is not true, my friend has a 15 gig. The blue looks bad, the lights case a big shaddow. He hates his and wishes his backlight was smoother, he even sent it back to apple because he thought there was an issue with the screen. I dont care either way, if he keeps complaining ill just switch mine with his... (his has less scratches :D

I agree w/ austin... its not true. I have a 15 that's blue, and a 3G 10 that's white.

SIGH.. i just saw one of the actual blue backlight ones at compusa.. it was beautiful.. personally i think the color is much better than the white/grey, it is also much crisper looking, like the lcd is of higher quality. wish there was some way to trade my white 15gig for a blue one 8(

personnally i would say the blue is so light it's almost white...:D
on the other hand when I turn up the contrast it tends definitely to a darker shade of blue.

Mine is pure white, except sometimes it is bluish under flourescent lights.
If you want a blue one get an exo and a jamaca ishade.

Mine is just as blue as in the picture (clearly blue even with other lightsources present). Maybe the difference exists over EU/US ipod's? EU ipods are different due to the volume leveling. Maybe they use different backlights too for some reason or another? (Btw, my ipod is a EU version ordered from Apple Belgium)

How weird. My wife's is white, mine is blue. We bought them at the same Apple store, both 15G, however, we bought hers in May and mine in September. Oh well, I got the cool one! I won't tell her!

Mines, blue, a neon kind of blue. I want it to be red :D (I've seen it in some site, but they advise not to crack open the ipod) :(

It looks a little lighter then the blue in that picture (first post) kind of like a ash blue. I think it looks cool, it's not white, or that blue blue color. :)

This is a thread I just came across....and from some reading it appears that iPods purchased more recently contain the 'blue' backlit screens.

I get my 3G 20GB iPod tomorrow and I bought it from Apple Canada.

I just got mine today, (3g 15gig) and when I first turned it on it was grey. I was dissapointed. I charged it up then listened to it and the back light was then blue. So you are right it has to be a battery thing.

I got my iPod last week and got my digital camera this week.....trying to keep up with the times.

Here is my iPod..........the camera makes it very blue. At any rate I'd say mine is a mix of blue and white. Not white like those in pictures and not blue like my own picture (ODD!)

Yeah, I've seen one iPod before (at Fry's. it was inspiring) and I hope that mine that I ordered from apple is a blue light. Though, I really don't care, but it'd be really cool. It would impress people. :D :D :D

i had a 3g 10gb which i accidenty destroyed (note to self, they don't float) anyway, that one had a mix bue/white thing goin on, i just got a 3g 30gb, and it's hella blue, caught me off guard, since i wanted so much just to replace the void left by my ten, now i have to adjust to a new glow and a slightly thicker pod. also i noticed that the contrast on my new one is nowhere near as good as it was on my old one, it's very washed out compared to the 10gb, i have to turn it all the way up just to get it visible, also the new backlight has shadows (those two dark spots on the left if you know what i mean) and my old one didn't. confusing i tell you.

also, in just playing with it, i noticed that the higher you have the contrast up, the more blue it looks. and i again noticed how bad my contrast is, it blows, if i got it off ebay if there anything i can do to have apple cover it? or am i screwed?

i don't like those custom color bg's... they make it harder to read the words, i leave mine clear, in the morning it makes a good flashlight when it's really dark in your room and u dont' wanna turn on the light (wake up someone)

My iPod's HDD just died... rest in peace l33tPod... :( anyway, my new one has a white backlight with a bluish tint. I think only new iPods have the white LCD's.

I found that if you change the contrast of the iPod, it will change the color of the backlight.

Mine's identical to his. But I think I even like it better than that dark blue one as on the box... But as long as it's readable in the dark. :)

Sorry,I meant to quote this person. Sorry. It's the same color as his shown in the picture - the one with the black case.
