I may not be the best reader in the world, but something about the battery replacement program is confusing me.

Supposedly they give you a "replacement ipod." Is that a whole different ipod from the one I turn in? I don't get what this means. Can anyone help? Is it only the battery or the ipod itself? Thanks.

This means you do not get the same iPod back. Your music and other data will be completely gone.
Also, another thing to keep in mind is that the iPod you get back may be new, or it may be a refurbished model. One thing is for certain; it won't be the one you bought.
Third, if your iPod is engraved by Apple, it'll take even longer to get back from repair. (If engraved by someone other than Apple, the engraving will be absent from your new iPod.)
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply.
I have a 3rd generation 10GB iPod with my name engraved on the back from Apple. Do you think it's worth getting this battery replacement thing from Apple? Thanks.

My apologies for the late reply.
You can purchase a replacement battery and attempt to install it yourself. I wouldn't do this, it depends on your confidence in your own technical expertise.
Some websites that sell these replacement batteries will offer to install it as well for a fee of around 10 bucks. At 50 dollars a battery, that's about 60 dollars, you'd just need to make sure the website hasn't cheated anybody out of anything.
Apple does it for 100 bucks. If you want to save money I'd just ask around about good websites that offer the battery and offer to replace it as well. That way if you find a reputable site you can save about 30 bucks. Worst comes to worst Apple is your best option since that's safest; but again, if you find a trustworthy website to replace your battery, go for it.
That way you don't lose your songs either (since all they're replacing is the battery.)
