wiring ipod into car cd player

sorry if this has been asked before, just joined the forum and didnt see anything similiar after doing a search.

A friend of mine was saying it's possible to buy a type of "splitter" like is used on a auto cd changer that will in effect provide you with a place to "plug" your ipod into. This would go on the back of the cd player where the attena goes in. Then I guess you'd have to run the cable back under the dash or whever so you could plug the ipod in, and it would in a sense function like cd changer, but with a lot more music.

Has anyone tried this or any other options to allow you to play the ipod in the car? I've heard so many negative reviews of devices like the itrip, etc that it seems like it would be much better to be able to "plug" the ipod directly into the cd player. Since my cd player doesnt have a jack on the front, then doing some kinda modificaiton on the back is neccessary in order to interface the ipod with the cd player...

You need to see if your radio or cd player got Aux in, then you need to get a belkin auto kit and you can mod this nicely for a totally clean install. Get your self a nice PDA holder with flexible stand and your rocking....

Simply plug in ipod and the AUX in will activate (or you will have to choose on the radio whatever)

Would the aux in be on the BACK of the cd player? Mine does not have that on the front??

What you are looking for is called a RF Modulator.

However, there are 2 types: Wireless (Like the iTrip) and Wired. You are obviously looking for the wired type.

Go to crutchfield.com and do a search on "CAR RF Modulators". Th lowest price one listed there is the "JVC KS-IF200" for $39.99

Depending on your car, you may be able to buy an auxiliary input converter that allows iPod input via the CD changer port. You'll also need a mini stereo jack to RCA cable. I have this set-up for a Honda factory stereo and it works well with my Nomad Zen (and hopefully, with my iPod when it arrives this week). Importantly, to my untrained ears, the sound quality does not appear diminished through this connection...and it should be even better if connected through the iPod dock audio line out. I bought the input converter at Logjam electronics for about $50.00.

wouldnt that just depend on the cd player model I have? Why would that have anything to do with the vehicle, since the cd player i have my two roomates also have in two completely different vehicles?

brown: He was assuming you still had the factory head unit. It really depends on the headunit you have, actually. An AUX input adapter is a better way to go than with an RF modulator, because modulating the sound to an FM station creates a fairly good loss in sound quality.
